    Default wiring gauges

Hi, i have installed some binnicle gauges which work fine. the only annoying problem is when i switch the engine off the gauges stay powered up, and because the oil gauge no longer has a signal it buzzes.
So i was wondering if there is another point i can wire it to so when the ignition turns off the gauge does aswell?

you could go straight to the ignition wire from the ignition barrel or you could go to the accessory wire behind your cd player

a better pick off point is the +ve wire to the cig lighter plug behind centre console , get get to it by removing the stowage bin under the radio/cd player...

yeh accessoris power is the best option, even piggy back it off the head unit, or use a test light/multimeter to find an acc wire

Yup I got the nice red digital ones from autobahn and used the power from the optional cigarette lighter switchn under the dash. Best part about that is it also has an illumination wire from the lights to. Not that i needed that one but its there for other things if you need it.
As my car is a red ss with a black interior they look pretty good at night ill post a pic if anyones interested

I finally tracked down some awesome full sweep red face gauges (oil pressure and volts) from America to match up with my red ss dash cluster. Will be installing them as soon as they arrive, also got a genuine binnacle with the twin humps that suits the VY, it was fitted to the GTO Pontiacs over there.
Some good advice here about the wiring. Most difficult part I reckon will be fitting the oil pressure sender.
And yes, would be tops if you could post up some pics Chrisvyss.

mine are currently wired to the yellow acc wire for the radio. but i have the option enabled to keep the radio on until the door opens. not sure if cig lighter does that.
The gauges i have are: SCX Silver Dial Performance Gauges
Wiring the oil gauge isn't hard, only hard bit is finding a brass tee piece. then just need to run one wire from the sender to the gauge.

Apologies, they are a modified VZ gauge pod in ABS Plastic for the VY. Here's a pic of them in place waiting on gauges.

Gauges finally cleared customs yesterday so hopefully arrive tomorrow.

Thanks for the pics Chrisvyss, they look good mate. I'll add a few of mine when complete.

its actually easier going straight to the plug on the key barrel, just gotta pull the covers off the steering column, dash surround and dash cluster. i was thinking of doing a how to but forget to take pics lol

ooo. i thought on the head unit power wire is easy coz its just strait down under the air con. with volt meter, its better voltage reading wen its bat direct

Installed the gauges last night, wired up the volts into the cig plug.

Have the oil pressure sender routed through the firewall ready to be hooked up to sensor.

Bought a tee piece adapter from supercheap so it can tap into original sensor also. Anyone know the best way to run the sender wiring loom to sensor in the engine bay to avoid heat and other damage?

Looks like I'll have to jack up the front of car and remove sump shield. I'm pretty sure it's straight forward, anyone run into issues with the tee piece and clearance issues?
