Default what exhaust setup for vy v6 s pack...

    hi guys,

I am keen to get a exhaust setup for my vy because its just not loud enough or powerful enough. i am after that loud and grunty sound that u get with big v8's but in my v6. i am abit of a noob when it comes to this and not sure what it all means i just know price and what they called. i heard things like...
pacemaker extractors/headers. twin 2 and a half inch with hi flow cats.
do i need all this? maybe extractors but what is ment by twin 2 and a half? is that the size of the exhaust pipe the whole way thru mandrel bent?
and are hi flow cats necessary for power and noise? or is that only for turbos and v8's?
is it necessary to have everything stainless steel?

judging by your recommendations after this post what price would i be looking at. fitted and all? personal experiences and what you guys have/recommend...
i am only looking at spending between 600-1000MAX but would prefer 600-700 so kinda jewish about it...
    thanks alot

hi mate i have a 2.5' exhaust in my vy s , it gets a pretty good sound and i cant hear it from the inside of the car which is good for me. if you want something louder try to get it straight pipe, that increases the sound ALOT

    1. It will never sound like a V8
    2. Don't need the cats unless your ones are shagged.
    3. Yes twin 2.5" means two 2.5" wide pipe from front to back.
    4. Stainless steel = more money, not going to happen in your budget.

yeah its not too hard to get it to sound like a v8... go to the wreckers and grab a v8 and whack that in your car

fyi i've got pacemaker extractors, high flow cats and a 2.5in sports exhaust. sounds like a nice v6 rather than a v8.

FYI I can do extractors and a system, shipped, for $650 (single cat model, not including the cat as the stock one is fine). No welding required to fit it all up, so if you were handy with a spanner you can do it yourself.

thanks everyone for the replies, some more on topic then others..
i think the straight thru pipe will be my best bet, otherwise with abit more cash i will do the extractors and maybe cold air intake no cat converter..

Do you mean straight through from the cat to the back with no mufflers?? Because that will sound horrid. Loud as a hell and with drone like a bitch.

on my old vt i had extractors, stock cats lukey high flow middle muffler to lukey resonator and that sounded decent for a v6. before that i had just the resonator at the rear and it droned like a bitch on the highway. however it was loud!

Just do a search. There are too many thread on what exhaust to get it's not funny.

However, to save you the search time, get a single 2.5" cat back with both middle and rear. DO NOT GET A STRAIGHT THROUGH! It will sound awful and you will regret it. Extractors aren't necessary unless you're really chasing power, ie. going into bigger mods later on. Otherwise they will get you maybe 5kw increase. Not worth the money imo.
