    Default Brake upgrades

    Hi all,

Has any one used the Harrop Standard Plus brake kit? It is the one that uses the standard calipers with modified brackets and it has 343mm vented on the front and 332mm solid for the rear. As a budget kit is seems like a good price, however; I have never seen any fitted to any cars and I just wondering how they perform compaired to say the HSV/PBR kits?
I really want to get rid of the stanard brakes as they are pretty bad and get something better.
But like most people I can't justify to the mrs spending 4K on brakes.

    Thanks

For about $1K you can get the 322mm VE spec brake kit for the front and matching rotors for the rear with good pads.

I'm looking for something with alot more initial bite, and firmer pedal. Are the VE a straight swap? Because prices for VE brakes seem alot cheaper.

Yes, they are a straight swap. You will get everything you need to fit them in the kit.

i got dba slotted and cross drilled rotors front and rear with new pads all fitted for $1000... got about 15,000-20,000 k's on them and even though you think they've lost their bite when you put your foot down they really haul you up

You can go just rotors and pads, but using the VE calipers will give you a firmer pedal and more bite as the pistons are slightly smaller and they require less pedal push to apply.

Rotors and pads in a curve slot and dimpled pattern (my custom rotors) will set you back $450.

    These are the rotors:

We have them front and rear on our Senator and they work really well.

I could be very wrong here but the VE Calipers and I believe the rotors do not fit VT-->VZ Commodores as the mounting points for the VE are the reverse of that on the VT-->VZ models.... see below.

As for the VE HSV Kit... based on the above NO, they cannot fit.

    VT-->VZ

    Thanks Darcon666.

It's a shame because you can pick up a heap of HSV and redline kits on ebay for a good price.

The kit is put together specifically for the VT-VZ. The calipers mount on the opposite sides to what it says on them to keep the bleeder at the top. The kit doesn't use VE rotors, it uses custom rotors that are manufactured to suit the VT-VZ hub and the VE caliper.

Then this kit must have a special mounting bracket to elongate the VE caliper to fit the VT/VZ stub axle/hub and then centre the caliper to this "Special" rotor....WOW, didn't know they were available/made these... I stand corrected.

Interesting that these kits are only 322x28mm(VT TO VZ COMMODORE FRONT BRAKE UPGRADE KIT TO VE SPECS | eBay) and you need 17' wheels(min) when the VX Clubsport R8 Performance kit is 330/300(F/R) for around $1-1.5K, no mucking around with special brackets/rotors... and it fits 17' wheels which I believe is superior the VE brakes anyway.

Alternatively you have these on EvilBay...VT VX VY VZ COMMODORE BRAKE UPGRADE | eBay even VT,VX,VY,VZ UPGRADE BIG BRAKE KIT HIGH PERFORMANCE RDA | eBay.

However with this....HSV VT-VZ 343 mm UPGRADE 97-04 Front Disc Rotors | eBay its only Rotors and you need the older Harrop calipers which cost between $2-3K, see here... HARROP | Brakes

What ever you decide on MickVYSS, you need to be happy with it.

Yes, they have the adaptor bracket in the kit.
