    Nice car mate

About the issue i'd check/replace all the obvious things first:
-Spark plugs - Use this chart to diagnose a problem: spark plug chart. Replace them anyway because they are cheap. Make sure the new plugs are gapped to 1.5mm
-Battery/Alternator - check battery voltage with engine running (alt) and stopped (battery). Should be near 12v when stopped, and at least 13.5v when running.
-Fuel filter - just replace it.
-Ignition leads - test resistance with a multimeter. Should be less then 10,000ohm for the short leads, less then 27,000ohm for the long leads.

You can check all of the above yourself with little mechanical knowledge, you just need a socket set and a basic multimeter to test the battery/alt and leads.

If none of the above seems to be abnormal, the next things to look at are the O2 sensor, coilpacks and Throttle position sensor, but they are more complicated to test and can be expensive to replace. Tell tale signs of the O2 sensor wearing out would be excessive fuel consumption and/or black smoke coming out the exhaust when you give it a rev. TPS is harder to diagnose, but usually you will find there is a flat spot in the throttle response - when the throttle is at a certain position regardless of engine load/rpm it runs badly. Bad coilpacks will cause the car to misfire, best way to diagnose them is to just replace them with some known good ones (got a mate with a VN-VY V6 Commodore?) and see if the problem persists.

The MAF sensor could also be bad but i think thats probably unlikely on a VY unless the car has done a lot of km's.
