Hey peoples! I'm new here and hope to learn a lot as well as contribute to this great site. Been a long time lurker but thought it was time I joined in.
Basically I'm looking to upgrade from my VL (don't know how I'll ever say goodbye) to a VY Calais and I'm curious on people's opinions.
At this point in time, is there something that I should be looking out for when buying a VY? Should I stay away completely from Series 1? Or is it just as good as series 2 wear-wise? Will the VY be at a stage that around this time they may all tend to be weathered a bit too much? i.e VL's often had cracked heads at 200k... (example)
Would it be wiser to invest in a VZ rather than the VY? I know the VZ has the new Alloytec, does this early version of that engine tend to have more kinks than the ecotec in the VY?
This will do for a start. Hopefully you can all help me out and I in turn can help others.
Cheers.
Ok, I think I wrote too much. 1 question... Which model Calais...
VY, VY II, VZ?
all models listed are good reliable cars, like most holdens though have small faults there is nothing really to steer clear from like your example of the VL, as for the etech vs alloytech, theres no greater difference the alloy has bit more power and slightly more fuel efficient, basically any of the models you listed are strong cars and are very very smooth to drive.
"You need money to make money" unfortunenately this isn't true if your spending money on cars.
ive had no issues with my vy series 1.
Honestly just go for whats in your price range and what one takes your fancy looks/drive wise
The VY II was far better equipped than the Series 1 with the sort of gear that younger drivers might appreciate. Slightly stiffer and lower suspension, 17" instead of 16" wheels, individual front end styling, SS style body skirts all round, all black interior. Also much more attracive looking car than the Series 1, in my opinion. It was also the last of the Ecotechs so it was very well sorted out.
VZ was even better equipped, having standard leather interior, higher output engine and five speed auto, but has the usual problems you expect from being the first with a new engine. Early alloytechs suffer from stupid things like oil pressure senders that fail early and send an annoying "Service Vehicle Soon" message to trip computer. They are also more critical of good servicing. The Ecotech was lower tech but a bit more forgiving if you didn't service it as frequently as you should.
I would avoid a Series 1 VY, and base my choice on what was available at my price between the Series II and the VZ.
all good cars man like the above have said its just really watevers in ur price range
