Hi, I have had some issues with my S/Charged VY Calais after I introduced a do it myself Cold Air Induction. I have provided 2 of 4" tubes from the standard Type S airbox. This has done 3 things.
I have also recently replaced the thermostat to one that opens at 81deg.
- Given me more economy. ie. I was getting 500kms (country) from a 74lt tank of LPG, now 600kms per tank.
- Makes the car run much cooler than before.
- Struggles to find idle speed when starting from cold. For the first 30 sec after cranking, RPM drops to around 500RPM (or stops dead) and then gets the idea and stabilises to around 900RPM after 30sec.
Is it an issue with the chip or the MAF?
Can anyone help?
What sort of LPG system is it running?
What fuel is it running when having the start up/idle issue?
So you have essentially 3 pipe inlets into the standard L67 Airbox..?
I have a PRINS system and I only use 98RON when starting and then LPG.
The problem doesn't occur once the car has warmed up, only from cold in the morning. (These pics are before the LPG conversion).
No I have 2 inlets into the airbox (one uses the existing hole and another on the inside) both of which are 4inch (100mm) in diameter. One goes behind the lights and the other goes down below the radiator but not directly under the car for clearance. I will be posting pics when I take them next.

Introducing more or bigger holes into the std S airbox shouldn't have anything to do with the idling when cold.
If there were no problems before you did the mod then I would be looking at something else like a split vacuum hose or air temp sensor (The one on the air box) not plugged back in.
Its amazing how often guys have problems after mods only to find out it was something simple.
As said before if the problem didn't exist before the 2 hole mod then something else is causing the problem not the 2 hole mod.

It could possibly be the vaccum hose or the temp sensor not plugged into the box properly. However, the slightest change of airflow on an LPG run car does present adverse affects, particularly on start up and idle, given the volatility and sensitivity of the fuel, needing the tune to be far more precise than that of a Unleaded run car.
