Hey guys,
I know this subject has been covered ALOT before but i'm not quiet sure on what i can do...
I have just bought the following head unit "http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/2-Din-Car-GPS-DVD/G2213D.html" for my VY![]()
What I'm wondering is it possible to keep the use of the steering wheel controls? I understand that there are cat10's and PAC audio things but form what I can see they only are compatible with big name brands like JVC, Sony etc... anyone have any idea?
Thanks Guys![]()
Reading the manual - it looks like the headunit itself has a built in decoder and you set the control functions yourself. However - the instructions are sparse, to say the least ... If I can be confident on setting the steering wheel controls myself, imma buy an eonon unit myself.

found this on a facebook page...
If my car can use Steering Wheel Control with Eonon units, how to wire the cables to make it work?
P.S. This method can be applied to all the Eonon units which with Steering Wheel Control function.
There are 3 or 4 cables:
A steering wheel control power cable +5 V
A black ground cable
One or two digital cable(s)
1. After connecting these 3 or 4 cables, enter the steering wheel setting menu.
2. Press the steering wheel button of your car, then you can see the Eonon unit will display the voltage of the button.
3. Press the “SET KEY” icon to set up the function of the button. For example, if you want to realize volume + function , just press the VOL +,and the screen will show you VOL + .
4. Press the Enter button in the right bottom to save the settings.
5. Other buttons can be set up in the same way as above.
I have done this in prvious cars - VS and VX - via a pac swi unit. It looks like perhaps the eonon unit has the interface built in to the system.
Setting the buttons seems straight forward enough once the wiring is correctly connected.
From the wiring diagram in the eonon manual, there are three wires - numbered 6,7,8. 7 gets wired to GND. Easy.
The hard part is the wiring.
Steering wheel controls on the VX involved 2 wires - a black yellow wire, and a brown wire.
When using a pac swi unit, the black yellow wire needs to be grounded and the brown wire sends the signal from the steering wheel controls (by providing different resistance to GND).
So, according to the eonon manual, wire 7 on the back of the unit needs to GND
That leaves wires 6 and 8 on the unit
and there is a brown wire, and a black/yellow wire from the steering wheel controls.
A little trial and error may answer the next question ...
Of corse, it is also possible that the unit, and our cars controls may not be compatible ...

where's a good spot to pick up them wires (Brown & black/yellow) or are they directly connected to the headunit?
thanks heaps mate things are starting to make sense![]()
THose wires are a part of the harness that plugs in to the back of the factory headunit.

GOOD NEWS!... well kinda...
I wired up the headunit yesterday (also the steering wheel controlls) but nothing happened... then that night i realised that i wired the wires from the headunit to the yellow & black wire not the black & yellow wire
But anyway tonight i changed the wires temporarily (because i couldn't be bothered soldering and that)... I then went into the settings and was able to select volume up and down! YAY!...
Only problem was that when i went to use them later the volume kept increasing after i pressed the volume up button (on the steering wheel)... I could also press the volume down button on the SWC but as soon as i let go of the button it kept increasing... i think it may have something to do with the temporary connection AKA holding the wires together hahah but ill let you all know when i get a proper chance to wire it all up properly![]()
Sweet - sounds promising. I have ordered my eonon unit![]()

u order yours from eonon? im really impressed with the unit btwapart from the tv reception
![]()
plus i just read that the cat10 interface requires the black/yellow to be grounded so i recon that ill be able to get it going next time i pull it out![]()
I ordered mine from eonon US website - free postage, great exchange rate at the moment and 20% - 25% off most units at the moment - (making way for new models ?) About $40 cheaper than buying from ebay.
I had expected tv reception would not be much good - but then, analogue is near dead here in AU anyway. I won't even bother with a tv aerial.

mines dvb-t (digital tv) but yeah aerial taht it comes with is shite...
...and ill let ya's know the wiring if it works out![]()
haha i just wanna be able to chill and watch tv when im bored in traffic haha
ill cant be certain but im pretty sure its a yes... but it may not be compatible as it may just keep doing what it was doing (volume increasing)... If i get off work early tommorrow ill have a go at wiring it properly![]()
Didn't get a chance tonight mate work kept me back ill try to make time tommorrow after workill let yas know asap
Sweet. I am hoping to recieve my unit tomorrow![]()
