Gday all,
My stock brake discs have just about had enough, they make a terrible sound and they cannot be machined again. What I was wondering is if I can simply upgrade those discs to slotted one? with the same brakes pads and what not.
If so, where can I get good ones online?
Cheers

Just replace your rotors with QFM items and some decent pads. Don't bother with slots as all they'll do is make your brakes noisy without actually improving braking performance.
Yeah i hate having squeaky brakes. So just some new discs and QFM pads we reckon?

RDA Slotted Rotors with QFM HPX Pads
i replaced the front brakes on my wagon with DBA slotted rotors and heavy duty Bendix pads,it now pulls up heaps better...
For the last two replys:
Do either of your slotted rotors screach when they get warm...are they better?

Slotted rotors with an above average street style pad will give you good results. I'm using RDA slotted discs and EBC greenstuff pads and I wouldn't really recommend the greenstuffs. They do squeal very lightly now and then. The squeal is most likely age related (going on a few years now) and they are due for replacement soon. FTR, I paid about $400 for all four discs and all pads. Gotta love eBay!
I have dba slotted front discs on my vr and rda slotted on my vz and they both have qfm hp-x front vt style pads and they both (the vz especially) generate some significant feedback through the pedal when you use them especially when cold....I had qfm super x pads with the same slotted discs on before that on my vr and it was not near as much....no squealing or screaching ...just a feeling like the pad is bitting into the disc when you applying the brakes.
The braking affect but on both cars is pretty good and once you get over that grating feel they have ,they pull up well, even better when they heat up. I think the slotted discs make more dust on the wheels but there is no excessive disc wear but I would probably put the super x on if I had the time over again...for a car that gets it brakes used to extreme say on the track ,the hp-x probably work better at high temperatures but on a daily drive car that gets the odd abuse it doesnt get anywhere near there so the super-x for me would be the better choice overall.

Love your work guys!
Is it alright to just get slotted front discs and keep the rear standard?

Ok so I have DBA slotted rottors and cop spec pads from QFM but I still have horrible screeching. I'm at my wits end, they have been on for about 4 months now. I'm not bagging the QFM pads as there are so many people say theyre great but I'm seriously over the screeching.![]()

The improvement will be from the pads not the rotors.
Absolutely! But as I've said before, slotted will offer no performance advantage. You'll also chew through pads quicker. I'd also recommend QFM brake pads as well. I went from $150 a pair Bendix Ultimates to QFM pads for half the price. Braking performance was as good without all the dust.
Lots of people swear by fitting DBA slotted rotors but I went from DBA slotted rotors to QFM rotors without the slots and braking performance was exactly the same. You need to go for the 4000 series before you'll notice any difference. By the way, this was all on a VY SS.
Hi mate,
Slotted rotors to suit are $179 for the front pair, and $165 for the rear pair.
HPX we've phased out in favor of a better performance street pad. It's a European performance pad called Remsa, which is rated to 650 degrees (versus 550 for the HPX), whilst still being low dust and rotor wear. Also the Remsa come with noise reducing features such as a relief groove and shamfers in the pad material, as well as a soft backing shim, all of which the HPX do not come with. We've been supplying Remsa to high performance street road cars like Porsche and Ferrari for many years, but the pricing has now become such that we're now able to expand it to most road cars. Remsa to suit your car are $89 for the front and $79 for the rear, and as per the QFM, come as a full face police spec front pad as standard.
Shipping to Melbourne on pads and rotors would be $22.

Greg

Sick of paying too much for high performance brake pads? Want high performance and cold bite with low rotor wear?

i've got the gold series one mine front and rear with bendix heavy duty pads... way way better than stock lol
although for the first week you'll probably end up doing what i did and trying to see how quickly you can stop lol
Depends how you drive your car. High performance pads are not for everyone.
I've got stock discs and HPX pads. No noticeable increase in stopping power over the old almost-worn GM pads, but you can trash the shit out of them for a lot longer before they start to fade. I can't see much point in going for something higher temp then a HPX because the standard disc would probably die in the arse anyway
They groan/grab a fair bit at low speeds (<10kmh) e.g. when parking.
I didn't notice any difference in the level of brake dust compared to the GM pads.
The standard discs and pads will do fine if you aren't hard on them. They will pull you up in an emergency just as well.... once or twice, then you'll have to let them cool down a bit
If you like to give your brakes a good arse kicking then get some high temp pads and discs (e.g. DBA4000/5000, the entry level DBA/RDA discs will warp/crack with track use).
These replies are helping heaps.
I think I might end up going with a new pair of standard discs and some HPX pads, or Bendix or wtvr.
Still not sure which pads to go for.
I'm not a street racer or anything like that. But I do like greater stopping power.
