    Question What bulb? :S

    Hi guys,
    I have a VY series 2 s pack commodore.
    I'm looking to install white lights into the front map reading/sunglass holder light fitting.
    I can't for the heck of me work out what the actual type of bulbs they are??
    The glovebox light and all them are referred to as a 'festoon' bulb, but what are these ones?

    Thanks

    They are BA9s type globes. I have replaced mine with bright white LEDs.

    You can buy them from Ebay. They are only a couple of dollars. But in my experience, they are not as bright or as good in colour temperature specs as the ones that I get from LED Lights & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS

    I pay alot more for mine, but I am very happy with them. Link below of the globes that I have in mine;

    Would something like this:

    Light Panel 48 SMD LED+T10+BA9S+Festoon Bulb Adapter | eBay

    fit in the map reader lights? Also, I've had trouble getting the casing off to access the bulbs. Is there some special method or am I just too afraid of breaking it and not pulling/prying hard enough?

    I had a 12 LED panel in each of my map reading lights. Due to the space restriction, you have to stick lower down closer to lens which makes the LEDs visible and oh so very bright even out the corner of your eye.

    I now have a great set of bright BA9s as per my above post. They sit in the factory position and unless you look directly up through the clear piece of the lens, they are perfect and do not glare.

    As for removing the lens, you need to have whole unit out of car, place a screwdriver inside lens next to one edge and lift up. This will gently lift the lug that is on the outer edge. Do the same for the other side of the lens, and then it should be loose.

    Nope nothing special, the clear lenses are just held in by a number of tabs around the edge and you can lever them out with a flat jewelers screwdriver. What i would recommend though, is removing the entire unit and popping out then lenses from the rear. From memory you might even be able to access the globes from the rear.

    Personally i wouldn't bother. I don't get the attraction of having the car lit up like the MCG.

    How do I remove the whole unit then? I like the extra light the LED's provide. I like having the bright lights for when I have them on.

    Open sunglass holder and you will see 2 phillips head screws. Undo these. Then pull the front edge (closest to windscreen) out of roof to a 45 degree angle, then once out, you will have to slide whole unit towards windscreen to clear the tabs on other end. Then unclip the wiring plug and your done.

    Pics below of the unit;
