Hey guys,
I have a VY Series 2 S pack commodore.
I have seen a few VZ SV6 and VZ SS commodores with a honeycomb mesh cover for the lower grille. I think this looks 20x better than the stock SS bumper on the VY commodore.
Is there anyway to do it?
Also, I am looking into getting fog lights for my commodore. As it is a series 2, it has not factory loom/harness ready to go. Is anyone able to point me in the direction of a thread that clearly demonstrates how to this on your own without the factory loom?
Thanks
What you can do is find yourself a fog/headlight combo switch so the whole install looks stock.
Hope that helps
its easier just to get the factory switch from holden... you only have to run one wire from the relay to the switch and thats it
thought the series 2 had now existing wiring what so ever?
nah they dont have the wiring if thats what your saying... got to do it all yourself but its not too hard reallythought the series 2 had now existing wiring what so ever?
Holden sell the upper & lower grill mesh that you're referring to. I did have part numbers at one stage but they have escaped me. They were $150 for the set if I remember correctly.
The lower one is called an Insect Secreen from Holden. I fitted one to my old VY SS - looked heaps better IMO...
No existing wires or anything because it's series 2 -.- Thanks for the diagram. Is anyone able to point me in the direction of some step-by-step instructions for the installation of the foglights?
Exactly why I want one.. Did you purchase it through Holden?
Thanks mate, how did you go about getting one?
Thanks![]()
Yep, got the Insect Screen through Holden. Can't remember how much I paid - about $75 from memory including all the clips / screws, instructions etc.
with the foglights just go to the closest holden spare parts place (dealer should work) and tell them what car you have and that you want the relay and the headlight switch for foglights... then just wire them up as in the diagram
buy some imitation or second hand foglights off ebay as brand new they are over $400 so unless you want to pay a fortune get them elsewhere... you'll also need to get connectors that match the ones on the foglights as you'll need half the new connector to match the one on the foglights
you'll also need some relay connectors for the main relay and some really small relay connectors that are just bare metal to fit into the wiring connection at the back of the switch
if you want any more details let me know as i've done it myself a while ago
Okay, thanks mate
Okay, so I went to the wreckers and found a VY S series 1 with its front end smashed in, and it had fog lights installed! So I bagged myself the relay, foglight connectors, headlight switch with fog lights and connector for that for $30!
All I need now is a pair of fog lights, most likely from ebay, some wiring and the knowledge of how to wire it.
I found this diagram:

Is this what I need to do for the relay?
I don't see why I need the indicator wired up like in the diagram below?
Thanks!
yes mate,m
that resembles the diagram i supplied before.. if you use that fog / headlight combo and that realy you will have happy days..
the reason i include one with the indicaor was because I wasnt sure if you had the holden combo switch or not
Alright, thanks for that mate
Here's the relay I have, pulled it out of a wrecked VY commodore, specifically from the fog light relay socket:
Pins are labeled:
Top = 3
Next pin down = 5
Bottom row, left = 2
Bottom row, right = 1
Bottom row, middle = 4 but is non-existent.
What would these pins (1, 2, 3, 5) correspond to the diagram below (eg does 2 = 85 etc.)
With the connectors I pulled off of the wrecked commodore there is a purple wire, and a white/blue striped cable. Purple wire goes to positive terminal on fog light connector, white/blue wire goes to negative.
I'm lost with the wiring, I assume the white/blue cable just goes to a ground point on the car? And the purple connector goes to the 87 pin on the relay? And then I need fused positive wires on 85 and 30? And then I need a trigger wire from pin 86 to the headlight switch, which then should be already grounded in the existing loom? Correct?
Sorry for my ignorance.
Thanks!
on the relay it should have a diagram on the back of it showing the numbers... if not i'll see if i can get a look at mine tonight
also you dont need to worry about earthing after the switch as that is already done for you![]()
Old Bump, Wondering if anyone has found a nice top grille for these without plastering a poxy chev badge on it?
Magoo
The indicator light is a legal requirement to comply with Australian Design Rules. Whether you fit one or not is up to you.
Fog lights are not to be used other than under certain conditions (ie in fog). The warning light is mandatory to alert the driver that they are turned on, so that he/she can ensure they are only active at the times they are legally supposed to be.
Of course, it doesn't stop the selfish idiots who ignore the warning light and insist on driving around with them turned on all the time.
Hi guys, just letting you know the foglights were installed today, with a few issues :\
The main issue being that the top of the hole for the foglights in the bumper had the shit scratched out of it..
This was because the adjustment on the top of the bracket wouldn't fit in the hole, and you couldn't tilt it backwards because of the bolt that was welded on the bottom of the bracket...
A lot of force was required, which scrapped the plastic of the bumper. Lucky it's not noticeable unless you get down to the height of the foggies.. Also it's lucky I need a new front bumper anyway..

But yeah anyway, there's pictures of the headlights, anyone else encountered this problem when installing them?
And how did you overcome it?
Thanks guys
i think i bought the same ones you pictured and mine fitted perfectly
