    Default SHHHHHHHHHHH sound when driving

    Hi all,

My Berlina wagon has had this sound ever since ive had it. It hasnt gotten worse but its always been there. Ive heard the sound on some VTs through to VYs have it but some not all. I remember reading another post about this but noone really had an answer.

It makes a "SHHHHHHH" sound which rises in tempo with the cars speed. Its like a dragging sound, so hard to explain. Its most noticeable at around 60km/h. Its quite intrusive in my wagon if your sitting in the back. I have noticed it on a hell of a lot of commodores some really loud whilst some you can only notice.

What is it? Anyone found a fix for it?

I think mine does that, it's sort of half way between a gear whine and a wind rushing noise? I can only hear it when i open the ski hatch (sedan).

It was especially loud when i had the rear seat out of the car. Maybe just the diff/drive shaft?

Hand brake dragging most likely, very common problem, stupid design.

Apparently there is a Holden fix for it, but no Holden dealer I've been to has any idea what I'm talking about.

You can adjust the hand break by reversing and slowly applying the hand break a few times.

Yep, there's a kit to fix it called a handbrake anti-scrape kit or something a long those lines.

Doesn't work very well. Theres also a nut on the handbrake lever in the car that provides some adjustment but you really need to adjust the shoes if it's coming up way too high.
