    Default vy ss m6 ticking

helllo, i have recently upgraded to a vy ss ute and have noticed a ticking noise coming from the gearbox.
its like a ticking noise that speeds up and slows down accordingly to my speed.
when i speed up, the ticking speeds up, when i slow down, the ticking slows down.

sorry if this is in the wrong section :|

any help would be greatly appreciated xx

It sounds like one of the exhaust manifold gaskets isn't sealing. You could try to nip up the exhaust manifold bolts a little but don't over tighten them.

Thanksan I'll give that a shot. Appreciate it.
Also when my car really needs to pull. Example 5th up a hill. I think it might be a pulley squeaking. Sounds like a bearing is gone. Any ideas how to find out which pulley it is ?

And obe more thing. Will a brand new exhaust stink ? Like when it gets really hot.
It stunk whe I first got it really badly. But now it's just when I absaloutly give it to it. It ####ing reaks? If it's coz of the new exhaust. How long will this last ??

Once my mum drove over a plastic bag and it had melted onto the middle muffler and your symptoms sound very similar. It could just be a sticker or some tape that is burning. I'd get it checked properly on a hoist just to be sure though. The smell on my mum's car lasted for months and then one day it was gone.

As for the pulleys, the best way is to cut a length of old garden hose, about a metre will do. You put one end to an ear and the other end near each of the pulleys one at a time while the car is running. You should be able to tell which pulley is stuffed fairly easily. This ticking sound will be much faster than the other.

It's rotational what ever the problem is... collapsed cats can also tick @ speed, so be aware of this.

Recently I thought my gearbox or clutch had shat itself from the noise it was making. In the end I took it to a mates place with a hoist, poped it up and it was both rear CV had collapsed and was transmiting the clunk/tick through the diff-->up the tailshaft--> through the gearbox into the clutch.

    Try this:-

At 60, push the clutch in but not out of gear - Noise still there then it's from the clutch and back.
At 60, push the clutch and out of gear - Noise still there then it's from the tailshaft back.

Problems like this are a real biatche to diagnose... Good luck

Like when it has to pull.

I'll try the 60 k thing tomorrow. Thanks heaps man

It's only when the clutch goes in. Soon as it reengages it stops.
