I've been reading through some of the threads and it seems a few people have the same shuddering problem in there powere sterring but i couldn't find out how to fix this problem
I was going to flush out my power sterring and replace the fluid will this fix the problem ?
Replacing the fluid will help a bit, expecially if your power steering fluid is old. Others have used Nulon power steering fluid, instead of Dexron III and found that to be effective. The factory offers a modification kit, which costs around $120, and consists of a longer steel fluid line which bolts to the cross member below the radiator.
This issue has been discussed here about 20 times in the past few years so do a search and you will find all the information you need in past threads, including the GMH p/steering hose modification.
Changing the fluid should help but will probably not solve the problem entirely.
(FYI, I keep the PS fluid in my VY series 2 car fresh (with 2 per annum fluid changes). It's cheap and easy to do. I have absolutely no shudder at all and never have had any).
Only use the fluid type/spec stipulated in the manual which in your case will be Dexron 111 (auto trans fluid).
I agree with Sean. Drain all the old fluid out completely and refill with fresh Dexron. You might just be lucky.
My Series 2 VY had 30k on the clock when I bought it in November 2007 and it had the shudder. I've never bothered to install the modification kit and have replaced the fluid a couple of times but the shudder has never diminished. It's a pain but I'm so used to it now, I only notice it if it is more severe than usual.
I just bought a 2004 and at first it was a bit meh I can put up with it but now its getting to be more of a gotta fix it kinda thing, Such a pain...
This was subject to a factory recall back in the day. If your car was fixed under warranty, it will have a sticker inside the drivers door sill. If not, Calaber has pointed you in the direction of a pretty cheap fix to a common annoyance with the model. Surely changing the fluid with any sort of frequency has got to be a false economy?
"You want fast, reliable and cheap ? You'll find a Commodore out there that can provide any two out of those three!"
I had this trouble with my VY and after a few fluid changes and some Nulon power steering additive it is no longer doing it so I'd give replacing the fluid a go and then add some Nulon and leave it for a few thousand Km and see if it's still doing it.
The fluid gets really hot and goes dark fairly quickly so changing it on a regular basis isn't a waste of money even if it's not shuddering.
To replace it I usually jack the front of the car so the wheels are off the ground, suck the resevoir empty with a sytinge and tube and refill it, start the engine and turn the steering wheel back and forth a few times, stop the engine and repeat, you do this 3 or 4 times and the fluid is all but replaced and it's easier than undoing any hoses etc.
I've just used Castrol or Valvolene DX3 however the guy's at Nulon have suggested trying their fully synthetic fluid but as mine has stopped doing it I have not had to bother.
