Ok guys ive bitten the bullet, time to start on the powertrain in the ute.
i want to keep the standard coverter as i drive it daily, but if pushed ill throw one in but nothin too large, was looking at a 218/224 610 howards cam n valve kit, full twin 2 1/2" di fillipo system pacemaker 4 into 1's and get chevs to tune it as he does eveything to my car as it is, is it worth getting a bigger throttle body, shift kit n maybe some 3:7's??
any other cam info will be appreciated as its something im new too![]()
definately worth upgrading the convertor mate, even if its a daily. 3000-3500 would be good, some of the boys will argue that you can go massive stalls and it will still be fine for a daily. that cam sounds a bit small, if you want to live up to the title you might want to go something bigger. maybe a 224/228 or even a 232/234 as they have had really good results.
exhaust sounds rad, but maybe look at a twin 3inch if you plan on doing anything more. throttle bodys are rather pointless without a matching manifold or they just create a bottleneck. instead of a shift kit maybe look at changing the servo? when you get it tuned im sure they can up the shift pressures for you anyway. 3:7's are also a good size for a daily.
a 224/228 cam would be the biggest id go, mate of mine has a massive cam in his, great to drive but too much attention from the red n blues down here!!! would i still be able to get optimum power with the 2 1/2'?? 3" IMO drones to much.
ill see what gary can do on the tune day with the auto, 3grand stall would be the biggest id go, 3:7's r a must and as for throttle body may look into a manifold too, i can get my standard heads tickled up also at a reasonable price.
all this is getting done next service as the from n rear end bearing plates have to be replaced so the motor will be out.
260rwkw+ and id be a happy camper, wouldnt know what to listen too, the car or the stereo!!!![]()
260rwkw is fk all mate. have a look at sweeney's (thejetpilot) VX SS, he has a 217/223 cam im pretty sure, OTR, exhaust, no stall or diff gears and he drives it daily, made 275kw on the dyno. with a bigger cam and hi stall id see him pushing 300kw, but you really need upgraded heads to get up that high.
manifold and throttle body will make fk all difference, do some research on them. they arent worth the money. put that money on the heads
ill get onto him and see what he has, 260 minimum that is, i got the OTR already cam (when i decide what to get) will be next, if i can get 275 with no stall that would be great aslong as she rumbles along nicely ill be happy, not usuing it for strip work or nothing.
ill put a bit of money into the heads if i get a 224/228 cam. im leaning towards that idea now, just dont want too much attention from the highway patrol haha
yeah sweeneys car sounds horn with the 217/223.
a decent tuner will be able to tune a 224/228 to as close to standard as possible idle wise. if you know of a decent tuner in morno let me know because im moving there soon lol.
Chevs is the best around mate, hes bout 20 mins from morno, in carrum downs.
found this lunati cam here, anyone used this???
LS1 GEN 3 LS2 L98 LUNATI HYD ROLLER CAM 2000-5000 | eBay
been looking @ youtubr clips of some cammed vy ss's emailed a few places in different states asking for prices on kits
Cam choice is final
220/224 133 lsa 570 duration com cam, springs, double row timing chain
still unsure whether to get the diff gears (3:7 or 3:9's) or spend money on the heads gettin tickled up
exhaust is di fillipo twin 2 1/2" system with hurricane headers and the usual OTR and tune to be done by chevs performance center,
gary said ill be lookin @ about 260 - 270 rwkw
should be fun![]()
