Default Need some help with my first mod on my VY

    Hi guys

I'm new to the forum and also new to working on commodores, i have a 2003 VY Acclaim and I want to start doing some mods to it.

my first mod that i want to do is replace my front and rear Rotors and also my front and rear calipers. Im thinking of going for dba slotted rotors but im not sure how the measurements for rotors work out ? is there a set mm rotor that fits my acclaim ?

and i dont know much about brake calipers, whats a good brand to go for ? how many pistons are in a good caliper ?

Hey mate I got the DBA slotted and cross drilled rotors with Bendix heavy duty pads and i couldnt be happier... From what I've learnt rotor and pad upgrades arent that expensive but upgrading your calipers starts getting expensive
I would just stick with your stock calipers and upgrade your rotors and then see how you like that and then later on upgrade the calipers if your still not happy but i reckon youll be happy with just rotors and pads... Talk to GSL Rallysport in the sponsor section and they should be able to help you out

mate, check the DBA website for your rotors.
    Pads - there are heaps.
Calipers - no idea myself. I would imagine any brake supplier - PBR etc website would have great info for you to check.
    Black on Black is beautiful!

yea mate I've picked out some dba rotors, I was going to go slotted for front and rear. i know slotted is not needed in the rear but thought they would look nice.

How much do you want to spend on Calipers? PBR, Harrop, AP Racing or HSV would do. You should be able to find a second hand set of HSV's somewhere for under $1000

I have front DBA slotted Rotors and Remsa heavy duty police spec pads, and they have a serious bite to them. It cost me $290 including postage.

Go get you're self a HSV Big Brake upgrade kit then or some Brambo brakes, that should see you pull at least an extra 0hp.... Bigger brakes are only needed for cars with decent power, seeing as though you only have a stock VY v6 there would be no need for different Calipers. It will make no difference in performance what so ever, you may pull up a second or 2 quicker that's it. For a decent braking system like HSV you could be looking at least $4000 for the VY. Money better spent else where like on engine mods or a v8 / Forced Induction.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!

I'm going to have unprotected sex, then once I'm done I'll use a condom.... Get my analogy?

You can upgrade your wheels for looks, but there is no point in better performing brakes (specifically the calipers, rotors and pads aren't too bad for the money) until you increase the performance of your engine. What if down the track you run into financial issues and all you've done is put bigger brakes on it? Pointless, waste of money on a stock car.
