Default advice on towing a car trailer with a vy2 ss 6 speed

as per title I purchased a celica/supra I want to tow it to my joint on a rented car trailer from Uhaul or the like.

I have a square hitch dont know the rating as plate has fallen off its either 1600kg or 2100kg

Im towing from Gosford back to sydney thinking of taking it real easy

Ive towed a car from melbourne to sydney but that was with a pajero so would like advice from you guys who have more experience.

    cheers

The size of the shaft where it slides in will tell you what rating it is. 40mm will be genuine and 1600kg, 50mm will be 2100kg. If it's the larger one, then it will be fine. You will be on the limit legally with the 1600kg one.

Just hook it up and go. Put the car on forwards so the weight of the engine is at the front of the trailer. Drive at a speed you're comfortable with and you will be OK.

Yeah the trailer itself should weigh near (-)500kg, and the car by the sounds of it is rather small so you should just make it by a bee's dick. Just take it easy going down Moony Moony Hill with a car on the back. Looking out the window its not to windy on the Coast at the moment so you should be right.

You should never tow in an overdrive gear, so dont use 5th or 6th, it fine to just pop it into 5th to lower revs when cruising down a hill or under no load to help save a bit of fuel.

    never tow in 5th or 6th ??

geepers I always do...did for years with my VX SS and still do with the VE
long trips to Winton or PI (with the race car out back on a trailer) would otherwise be a PITA
Smitty...with the VE SSv SII Sportswagon, VK race car and... Kwaka ZX12R

Yeah I stood on the skinny pedal in my 4runner while in 5th (g52) and smashed the box to bits... Granted its not meant to have a 304 bolted up to it.

mate I know all about mooney mooney seen countless caravans and car trailers end up in the boonies after the trailers jack knife ! people just dont take it easy get themselves in a pickle and then the trailer decides to steer the car .
