Just bought a used VY. The colour is apparently called Red Hot. Ive never owned a red car before, The brightness of it still throws me lol.
Anyway Im considering getting it tinted, but Im a bit indecisive.
From what I can see black seems to look best on the red cars. I will be tinting as dark as legally possible...I dont need the hassle of being forced to remove it.
I know it comes down to personal choice and its my decision ultimately.... but any advice would be appreciated.
Ive been told by a couple of friends who have had their car tinted.... that Altapac at Kotara ( in Newcastle area) is pretty good.
Has anyone on here been to them ??
To tell you the truth, I think any car looks good with tintsI love mine!
I have had a VS, VY and my missus' Kia Rio all done with 'Formula one' at Tint-a-car in Bundaberg. I would not go any where else, but as with any franchise business, there will be good and bad ones.
'Midnight express' is slightly darker than F1, however F1 has a lifetime warranty and mid ex only has ten years. Not a great deal of difference in the darkness between the two.

if you want to make sure it's legal get 45% tint. The '35%' means that the window needs to transmit at least 35% of the light, any less and it's illegal. This includes both the tint and the actual glass. Auto glass is (on average) 78% transparent.
0.78 x 0.45 = 0.35 = 35% (legal limit)
compare this to 'legal limit' 35% tint and you get:
0.78x 0.35 = 0.27 = 27% (illegal)
Here in victoria police now have handheld devices that will measure the light transmission of a window, and many tint places have had to redo tints for customers because what they advertised as legal tint was infact illegal after the transparency of the glass was factored in.
Darkest legal black tint looks great, my VY is "Shanghai Red" and with the tinting it looks great.
If you live around Newcastle, and can make the drive out to Raymond Terrace, Dan The Tinting Man is the guy you want. Very cheap and good quality.
Illegal or not who cares.
5% all the way go double shade of 5 as well fkn hot
I got my windows tinted with Tint professor on Friday and im a bit dissapointed. went for darkest legal and spent $325 and i would have liked it a bit darker.
Go darkest legal. but go.the more expensive option for a darker look

Next mods: Lowering, 4 Channel Amp and eventually 19's
My window Tinting is Frakking dark.. Not sure what %, but you can't see in from the outside... Ex under cover (When they were putting DARK tint on it)... And yeah. Night time driving... And raining ontop of that.. Can only see out the front of the car... 0 Visibility anywhere else.
You don't need to see anything at night it's only rain lol at least you see from the front,
Double shade is the best even if you try to come up close and peek you won't see anything I love it
The OP wanted advice on darkest legal. She didn't want to have to remove it.
This thread has turned into a skite chat about 5% and all that crap. Good on those of you who cannot see out of your windows, but you are not answering the OP's question......
