So you bought the motor with a hole in the sump already there? If something has come amiss inside it'll become pretty obvious as soon as you remove the sump. Also look for any witness marks where something may have scraped/hit etc. Where exactly is the hole? The sump floor pan on these gen3's is pretty thin, approx 5mm. Has the hole definitely been punched from the inside out? I've seen a gen 3 that was lowered onto the ground and a large bolt was under the sump... Yep you guessed it, instant puncture hole.

That doesn't sound healthy... Problem is, if its munched a piston, what has it done to the bore of that cylinder??? How long was it run for in this condition? I think you can safely assume its given it some scoring marks at the least. Really needs to be stripped down to closely examine that cylinder bore and the damage. May also have bent the rod. Do you know the history of the motor and how this came about?

Ok, so she's done a little more than just detonate a piston...
What were your plans for this this motor? Parts or a conversion?
As a minimum it'll require a rebore and hone. Any visible damage to the crank?

looks like oversized pistons are on the cards

Did you know the piston was shagged when you bought the engine?
