vy ss cracked k frame

Hi all, recently bought a vy ss 2, the other day coming out of my driveway, i turned the steering wheel and heard a crack from the front end. it threw the steering wheel out by about quarter of a turn but still drove straight, i jacked it up and found the k frame where the rack mounts up on the drivers side opened up, pushing the rack to the rear. has anyone come across this? is it common? what could have caused it? any help or comments appreciated. Thanks in advance.
