im looking at buying a vy wagon 2003 and found it hard to turn the key. the guy said it had to be pushed in before turning due to some sort of security. anyway it started fine but was a little difficult with the ignition, its not a big deal but was just wondering whether the key had to be pushed in the ignition a bit or might be a bit faulty
thanks
Key could be worn or low battery - provides a signal to the circular reader rim around the barrel.
Clean that well and see if it helps you![]()

Not quite a datsun..
If it's hard to turn the steering lock mech and guide are flogged I would think.. You maybe stuck on the side of the road soon... Just make sure you have road side assist and let them deal with it on the day. Still pop into a lock smith and ask a few Q's :P
Cheers,
Dave
Yeah im trying to fix my mates VU ute at the moment and it has the same issue. Once you turn the car off it wont just turn straight back on, you have to remove it and then put it back in.. Weather or not its an isolated, im not sure but it sounds like you have the same issue.. Nothing to worrie about....
[edit] trying to fix the engine, not the key issue...

Try turning the wheel to get it off the steering wheel lock and it will make turning the key in the barrel a lot easier. I've seen this problem a fair bit at work (I don't work at holden but do work in a dealership whose clientele like to complain and get stuff fixed free lol) and turning the wheel works everytime
The barrels are prone to failure, not to expensive to replace, but annoying if you get stranded somewhere.
