Hi guys,
My wife owns a 2003 VY Commodore S. When we bought the car last year the guy did let me know that the fuel gauge was faulty, telling us that he had already replaced the fuel sender with no joy. Wasn't a big deal for us and we got it for a good price.
Now we've finally gotten around to trying to fix it the mechanic we took it to said that for that model/year there were two different types of fuel sender. He ordered a new sender based on my VIN number, replaced the old one, but unfortunately its still doing the same thing, which is when the tank is filled the low fuel indicator beeps and the fuel gauge reads empty, then as the fuel is used the needle starts to move upwards!!
Any ideas why the fuel gauge is not reading correctly even when the fuel sender has been replaced?
Cheers guys.
check and see if there is a small patch harness between the fuel pump and the loom on the car, the terminals like to burn out, but this patch harness may only apply to earlier commodores, just a thought
also in that model c'dore the instrument cluster IS exchangable but needs a ,,,,
IPC fuel relearn
done with tech 2 for the gauge to work correctly....
so if ipc has been swapped or whatever, the fuel relearn has to be done...
had a few have a code stored uin the ecm that wont clear also for this but only seen it twice...
and finally if the sender is unplugged with ignition on the sender is then plugged back in it can cause a short circuit in the board of the ipc, which also sets a code in the ipc like, fuel level reciever error.....
Hay mate i had the same problem with the fuel gauge in my ss ute, after about 2 months i finally took it into holden and they just reset/calibrated the cluster and now it works perfectly fine.
The fuel gauge will work in reverse like that if a cluster from a different series has been fitted to the car as the fuel senders are different.
how many kms are on the car???
