    Default Excessive cranking???

I have an 03 6 speed vy ss ute that I've own for about a month now, and just recently it's developed this issue at start up. It doesn't matter how long I hold the key to start 9 times out of 10 it won't actually kick over until I back the key off then go again and it'll fire first kick! Cranking amps from the battery are fine. Just wondering if anybody here has had a similar problem? Maybe plugs or leads? Or fuel?

so it wont kick over with the key unless you go back to acc then try again?

if so, the ignition needs to be seen to.

Yeah its easy to replace, just need to source the part, wreckers would have one. If you look under the ignition barrel there is a gap, just put your finger in there and pull/push it out... Very simple

That easy ay!? Any body know how it work? I'm guessing if the right key isn't in the barrel then it doesn't complete the circuit?

Its a breeze, once its out just unclip the wire attached to it and replace....

Not sure on how it works exactly, may be a digital feed to the bcm or something (so it doesnt start with the correct key)

I think people have run off with a solution to a different problem.

The key reader will stop the engine turning over, this isn't the problem, the engine turns over, it just doesn't fire.

I would check the fuel regulator.

Another thing I've noticed, sometimes when It kicks over it runs real rough for a few seconds? Sounds as if it's only running on 6-7 cylinders and nearly stalling?

that sounds like a fuel presure problem. im not sure if the standard fuel system has an check valve, but on my worked V8 does the samething, only cuase fuel presure in the lines drop over night and gets air in there. it turns over after a few cranks in the moirining and runs rough whiles theres air in the fuel.

    i'd check the fuel reg.
want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...

I had the exact same problem in my VYII when i first picked it up. Wouldn't turn over on first crank, release and then fired up straight away. Eventually the pump died like yours.

Didn't help that the filter was pretty blocked as well.
