Hello, just got my VE SS rims machined and wheels fitted ready to chuck on my Berlina and i've been researching on internet for what wheel nuts to use.
The two main ones i've seen are
-VZ wheel nuts
-Ford Focus 2007 and onward wheel nuts (apparently much better fitting)
Does anyone have a definite answer or their own experience that could help me decide?
And what are insurance companies like on this mod?
Thanks
Rims are on!

You can get wheel nuts with a different taper to suit pre VE applications. For the life of my I can't remember where. Probably a question wheel deal will be able to help. I don't see it being a problem with insurance.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
i just used the standard wheel nuts on my vy with ve rims. My brother has done the same on his, had no dramas with either for more than 2 years. Not sure about insurance, I've never asked.

Don't mess with the wheel nuts or you will compromise your insurance cover. Wheel King in Melbourne sell the VE wheel to fit VYs with the correct GMH nuts for this rim. So contact them and they can sell you the correct wheel nuts for this application to the VY.

By the way, changing the wheels constitutes a vehicle modification and if you read your comprehensive insurance policy you will see that modifications must be disclosed to the insurance company as a policy condition.
Hope this helps. Cheers
Thanks very much guys, contacted wheel deal and he said to use the standard VY nuts and I've bought some gorilla guard nuts from america for 27 bucks including postage, BARGAIN!
Sean, thanks for the info![]()
post a pic please as I would like to do the same
Will do, I put the VE ss rims next to my berlina and its looking quite nice, I was worried by the fact that they were sports rims but they suit nicely.
As i understand, VE's use a larger stud thread (14mm vs 12mm). Thus the VE nuts don't fit on VY studs. Also the stud holes in the VE wheels are larger to accommodate the 14mm studs.
As far as i can tell, the only problem you may come across is if you use VY nuts on VE wheels, there might not be as much surface contact between the nuts and the wheel (compared to VE on a VE, or VY on a VY), because of the larger 14mm holes some of the flange on the 12mm VY nut pokes through the hole rather then mating to the wheel.
If that is the case you should be using is a nut that has a flange the size of the VE nuts, but the same thread as VY nuts.
Compare a VE nut to your current ones. If they seem the same other then the thread size, you're all good. If your current ones seem significantly smaller in diameter, you should change them.

Just from ebay, seller from US.
Gorilla 61631 Acorn Wheel Locks 12mm x 1.50 w/Key Set | eBay
Will take a couple weeks to arrive but 40 dollar saving.
Hey jon1166,
I'm looking for some lock nuts myself and just wondering how well the flange on the gorillas nuts sit and match up with the wheels?
Also those Gorillas look much larger [taller] then the lug nuts Holden sold to me, I thought the gorilla 78631n would be a much better match [http://www.gorilla-auto.com/gorilla-locks-page-02]. Has anyone tried these locks and if so how well does the flange sit inside the wheels?
If anyone is interested, the part nunber for the lug nuts is GM# 09594681. I have machined VE SS SII wheels on a VY and they match up perfectly with these nuts however they are not that cheap $80.80 at trade prices or you can purchase from holmart for $85 WHEEL NUT SET (20) VT-VZ MAG WHEEL NUT'S (GENUINE)
