i am changing my coolant over and i bought some green tectaloy xtra cool gold coolant to mix 50 50 with water. is this the right stuff to use or do i have 2 buy something else???
it says it can be used with holden vehicles
If it says it suits V6 Commodores then it's OK, you can check what it says on the container what specifications it meets and see if one of them is the Holden one to be sure or check their web site?
You should flush the old coolant right out of it first though then make sure you get 6 litres plus of water out of the cooloing system and then add 6 litres of concentrate then top up.
Also take out the overflow bottle and give it a clean out.
righto then will do. i looked on their website and it said suitable 4 all ford and holden but then there was another 1 which said v6 holden specifically its called v plus it is also green in colour.
so the stuff i got should be alright ya reckon??? the container is not giving me much
Well the Repco one I use states on the label "Suitable for V series Commodores" So I would research further if yours is not specifically for V6.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Unless the product details indicate that it meets GMH spec HN 2043 then I would not use that concentrate. (Tectaloy does make a pre mixed product specifically for the V6 which meets the GMH spec for this engine).
I would use "Castrol anti-freeze 350 Concentrate" (or you can buy the correct spec product from a Holden dealer) which is designed for the V6 and meets the HN 2043 spec. This is a concentrate which needs to be mixed 50/50 with demineralised/distilled water.

This comes in 5 litre containers and I think was around 36 dollars per container last time I bought the product. You may not find it on the shelf and might need to have it ordered in.
I'd go with Nulon Longlife Concentrate. It exceeds the GM Spec and is infact the same spec they put into export cars. It lasts longer and you don't need the pellets and it's not harsh on the water pump seals etc.
Don't pre mix it before you put it in unless you completely drain the block first, if you do you will only get about 5 or 6 litres in and the overall concentration will be too low. You will also need to flush out the old coolant completely first.
