hey guys
just wondering if anyone would know about this. At times my engine seems to sounds a bit scratchy and tinny when i rev and on idle. Sounds more to the left side when im driving. It doesnt always do it though so whenever i try to show a mechanic it decides to not do. Car is serviced regularly also with new steering rack and bushes

Possum in your airbox?
have checked the air filter and used compressed air to blow the crap out, did consider buying a new air filter but apparently is a waste of money. But i doubt the noise has anythin to do the air flow

It could be the belt and/or idler pulleys.
To check, take the belt off and spin each pulley while listening. If they aren't smooth, easy to spinn and silent then you should replace them.
If the belt is shiny or you can see any tiny cracks in it then it's time to replace it.
If you do decide to replace the idlers, get the metal ones from a reputable auto parts store instead of the overpriced plastic genuine ones.
what would be the best way to pull off the belt to make sure i dont break it and can easily put it back on again

Put a spanner on the idler pulley/tensioner, it's at the top and I think on your motor it's on the drivers side next to the alternator but a bit lower. I can't remember what size panner it is, about 16mm maybe?
Anyway, put it on that and pull firmy and you will lift it up. When you lift it up lift the belt off the alternator or wherever is easiest then slowly let the pulley come back. Then you can take the belt off and inspect the pullies.
But for god's sake, before you do anything, do a nice, big, clear and labelled diagram of where the belt goes. Otherwise when you go to put it back on you'll be scratching your head for hours lol
Had a few mates listen to it. they seem to think something may be loose like the flywheel or possibly even the exhaust. anyone had these problems with theres and made a similar sound

I'd think it'd be more likely to be the pulleys than the flywheel, and it's easy to check as I said. Check the exhaust rubbers if you think it's that, also the mufflers and/or resi could be rusted out which can cause a rattle.
