VY11 Executive ex Cop
G'day guys and gals,
I've just had my VY11 Exec ex cop serviced at my local Holden Dealer.
This was my first and LAST service at any Holden dealer!
I bought the car from Pickles auctions just over 6 weeks ago (GREAT deal too  ), anyhow it was due for it's 60k service so it was done yesterday, $253.25 later i got the car back!

How the hell do they justify these sky high prices?
$52.92 for oil?
Danm near $50 to fit wiper rubbers!
$6.50 Enviromental levy! There was a time all workshops SOLD their waste oil, is that not the case these days? If they do still sell it then why the hell do we get hit with a fee for them to dispose of the stuff?

The biggest shock was the $270 they quoted me to replace the front disk pads and machine the rotors! What the??? I had new tyres fitted and wheel alignment three weeks ago and the brake pads were fine then!

The guy who rang me to inform me about the brakes was fine with me till i told him i'll get another opinion on the brakes. He then got kinda shitty and ended the phone call at that point. I had the brakes checked today by a brake specialist and surprise surprise they are fine! Although there is some wear on the rotors they are safe and servicable.

After this experiance there is no way i'll be taking it back to a Holden dealer for a service, i'll be going to the same mechanic i have been using for over 20 years as he tells me he can do all work needed and not affect the warranty.

My last bill with him was for $110 for my old EA Falcon for a major service, plugs, filters, wheel balance and rotation etc....

Ahhh, that feels better now i've had a whinge....hehehehe...

Ahhh... yes..... The good old story about Holden doing service work... I can relate to that with their sky high prices. Although I had my rotors machined under warranty. It took a few "nasty words" but in the end, the dealer admitted that if the car had done more than 60,000kms, it was not covered. Mine were done at 35,000kms and they still wanted me to pay. Shifty Pr*ks...

Yes how is that little piece of info there that others may have not picked up.
the dealer admitted that if the car had done more than 60,000kms, it was not covered.
I bought my VY with what I thought was 100,000km warranty cover. Was I ever shocked when they wouldn't cover a diff problem under warranty because in their words it had exceeded their cut off break point of 60,000km's.
My ute had just got to 80,000km when it developed a crunching noise from the diff while reversing in a turn.
They said it required a chatter kit, which turns out to basically be some oil additives and a new seal.
Slugged me $300.00 for it to be put in ( took them 1/2 hour to do ).

When trying to claim it on warranty as the mechanic that did it said it was covered. The service manager said sorry it's over our break point value.
I complained to customer services about this but they just sided with the dealers service manager. They do all my (or did) servicing when it was required and told me what extras were needed but they never ever suggested the diff oil should get change. This was their get out of the warranty point they made. That I should have the diff oil changed every 20,000k's. The cause of the noise was oil breakdown or so they said.
No happy Janet :bang:

you think you paid sky high price???? i have a 1992 Honda Legend as well as my VY ute, for my major service on my Honda, at 120,000kms it cost me $760 at a reputable honda dealer, $760 for what.... they also rang me that day and told me two things, one my needed new front pads ($300) for pads, yeah rite, and the second was that my ABS was screwd and i needed to fork out $2300 to fix that,

With my ABS i pulled out the fuse waited, then put it back in, 30,000kms later still waiting for the light to come on again.

geeez people!!!! if your going to pay that much for a service then why ot buy new brake pads and disks and put them on yourself!!! $760 is a little extreme for a timing belt and plugs and oil change....
you must of being paying the bloody service manger who has been there forever and gets payed $50 an hour :D

Yer I got a mate who works for Bayford Ford (yes I know), and he said he can service my VY without any problems. So not only do I get a good price, but I know that he wont screw me around with crap like that. Things like oil change, brake pads, etc arent hard to do yourself, just major services id take it into a mechanic for.

Other than Holden, I would only trust K-MART Auto. You can stand there and literally wach from next to the car (if you wish) so that you don't get slugged. They are all wholey owned by K-MART, so ther is no hidden agenda. Also got machining on the old car for Nadda and a free New Car vehicle inspection !!

Try doing that and Blogs & Sons Auto !
