Hey first post here for me!
I've got a Vy 1 toner 3.8 v6 auto and someone I know is offering me a written off WK caprice 3.8 auto that was rear ended for 2k. Just wondering how difficult it would be to get the dash and interior out of that wk and into my ute. So centre console, climate control gauge cluster, stereo system the whole shebang. I'm also hoping to have that spare engine/transmission, so what differences are there in drive train between the v6 caprice and Ute. Will they swap right in later on? (plug and play) I'm hoping they're exactly the same Ecotech v6 and GM 4L60E auto.
A few things I'm unsure about
1. The Ute does not have passenger or side curtain airbags and I'm guessing the wiring loom will have to come from the caprice, what will I do about those missing airbags? will I get a srs fault and/or will I need to disable these with a tech 2 diagnostic computer.
2. Do the pcm/bcm computers also need to be from the caprice?
3. In the caprice the climate control system looks like it's linked to the system in the rear, does this present a problem in the ute?
4.I have access to a tech2 diagnostic computer (A friend that thought he'd buy one for fault finding $$$), so will I be able to avoid going to the dealer. I find dealers unhelpful and give misleading information, then they'll find anyway possible to rip you off.
5.I've searched the net for some detail to the electronics architecture in the vy/wk but haven't found much. Where do I find this info?
I'd appreciate if anyone can help me out.
I'm not really a new car expert but I'm usually OK with electronics being an electrician.
1. Disable them with the tech 2
2. i know for certain you'll need the bcm as its a higher model,
3. 95% sure it should be no problem
4. Is that even a question? haha if he knows how to use it correctly im sure he can program the caprice bcm to work with your ute
5. work shop manuals are probably your best bet
Youll be fine doing it, if you get stuck im sure someone here can help ya out![]()
