    Default Ls1 sparkplugs

Just looking at doing mine. The rear 4 look horrible to get to. Is there any easy way?

    Cheers

They look harder than they actually are. The hardest part is getting the two rear leads off the RH side.

I use a 3/8" drive ratchet and plug socket with a short extension to do most of them, I think I take it off to do 7 and 8.

You think they're bad to do on your own car, which you can let cool down. Try doing them on a customers car when they want to wait.

Make sure you never do it hot, FYI, its too easy to strip the threads in hot aluminium.

Good advice. Only did 2 and gave up. Will take another car to work tomorrow and it'll be nice and cold when I get home

Get yourself some leather riggers gloves... got some from work and their the best thing for working on a hot/warm engine
Dont have to worry about getting oil on yourself when changing oil and you can rest against hot stuff with for a while before it gets through... also reasonably easy to use tools with em on once you get used to them

Very easy to crack them when undoing them.

My VX SS is coming up for its first set of plugs soon, it still has the original Platinum plugs in it, I noticed the VY LS1's changed to Iridium plugs,
I rang Holden and they carry both but the Iridiums are close to double the price of the Platinums. My mechanic who works on heaps of LS1 powered cars reckons to just fit conventional plugs and change them more often. Not quite sure which way to go when they are due, what are most people on here using?

Thanks for that. I was really hoping it wasn't cracked while I was driving. Although funny thing is that was also the only plug that was rusty, I was thinking maybe the mechanic skipped that one at 80k

I put in the platinum denzos (ptj16r15). Personally I wouldn't fit copper plugs to anything except a 4 banger run about. Iridiums or platinums would be fine though. I was unaware Holden had changed there spec to iridiums though.

I was only going on what the Holden spare parts guy I rang said, I think the Platinums were from memory $11 or $12 each and the Iridiums were $20 plus each.

    Wish I was in oz.

Didn't price through Holden but platinum NGKs were 30ish each. Got the platinum denzos for 6us each + 30us for shipping.
