This is my car.. My clutch is slipping, should i sell or put a hd cluch in??
Opinions please
my cammed vy v6 ute Dual fuel!
I think there's two questions there.
Totally up to you. If you want to sell it because the clutch is gone, thenShould I sell my car??
I guess so, you've already said its slipping. My clutch is slipping, should i put a hd cluch in??
I've heard the dual mass jobbies are useless and if you need to change it to just throw a solid flywheel in there.
Heaps of places do them, so they should be pretty $$$ competitive.
I replaced the clutch a bit less than 2 yrs ago![]()
So the hd 1s piss over the dual mass fly wheel?
What price roughly am i looking at for 1? Are the ebay 1s
Anygood
If the VY's have a the getrag then it's definitely worth putting a hd clutch with a solid flywheel in.
It's a lot cheaper than getting another dual mass (less that $1000 if you look around) but you will
get a bit more trans noise coming through, like a slight shudder under load at low revs. As for the eBay
items, I have no idea. Good luck with your choice.

Yeah it is the 5speed manual.. Whats the difference between the dual mass and
The solid?
A dual mass flywheel is effectively two flywheels that transmit the drive through a number of springs which cushion the drive to the transmission.
Which makes it softer on components, bringing less noise. The solid flywheel (which I have) is exactly that, a single plate solid flywheel. There is
very little if any cushioning going on. And being a simpler piece of kit, it is cheaper to replace a clutch once a solid flywheel is in place because they
can be resurfaced.
So in summary
Dual mass = Smooths out drivelines rough edges, but expensive to replace.
Solid = A bit of extra driveline noise, the option of a heavy duty clutch and cheaper in the long run
(especially if you're replacing the clutch every two years)
That's from what I've been told and researched, I may have some of the details askew but that's how I understand it.

Thats awesome, thanks for that info! How noisey are u talking? Noticeable or only if u pay close attention to it
Well in my case it's noticeable but not unbearable, it will vary from car to car depending on the health
of your gearbox. With mine at low revs in gear (800-1300rpm) under load it makes a small chattering noise.
It will never be as silent as the stock arrangement but it's a small price to pay for long term reliability.
You might want to get your thrust bearing replaced at the same time as I'm told this can be the cause of
most of the noise that you'll be hearing. Definitely worth the change, I wouldn't go back to a dual mass![]()
