I want to get my acclaim lowered, but would it look odd just stock? I've been looking at some hbd body kits, cos they're subtle, which is all I want, but everyone seems to think they're crap.
I've been trying to find some pics of a stock acclaim lowered, but not having much luck
I found these though:

Ask 10 people and you will probably get 10 opinions.
I have seen many basic well looked after Commodores properly lowered (ie not too low) with a nice set of wheels and tyres (not 20s) and in my opiion they look good - much better than stock.
VYs are getting old and really are not now worth spending a lot of money on with expensive body kits and the like. (If you wanted a car with a body kit why would you not buy a VY S to begin with rather than an acclaim?)
In your position I would get the car sensibly lowered together with new quality shocks front and rear (which probably need replacing anyway) suited to the spring height, a set of VZ Monaro 18 inch rims (which are still available new if you want new) and a good set of Bridgestone tyres, such as Adrenalins(235/40/18). Clean and wax the paint and you will have a smart vehicle.
Replacing worn shocks with quality units and fitting some quality performance tyres suited to the vehicle is money well spent IMHO. Low springs and upgraded wheels are the "nice to haves" part of the upgrade and the cost of these items is not excessive if you want to spend the cash.
Just one opinion !!!
I'd whack a SS kit on it with the fog lights myself and lower it slightly lower than FE2. Will look great. I'm not a fan of that kit pictured either.
