In a bit of a pickle here and not to sure what to do,
my vy ute standard ecotec with 152,000km on the clock and a full 2.5" exhaust system, has started to have a few issues, it had a loud ticking noise, similar to lifter noise but heaps louder and it caused my engine to shut down(only once) and runs really rough but the problem is that its intermittent and won't do it for weeks then will do it once every so often, i took it to a holden dealer and they couldn't fault it, didn't bring up and trouble codes, no loss in compression, singularly tested each cylinder and there was no significant change, they suggested it would be cheaper to put in a repco exchange motor($5000) fitted, then it would be to strip and search for the problem
any suggestions as to what would be a good idea? anyone had problems with an exchange motor and i was thinking if I'm going to put in a recon motor would it be able to handle an aftermarket supercharger? or would that stress the motor and or other parts of the car(transmission/clutch etc) to much?
thanks.
That's odd Don't think ive ever heard of lifter noise coming and going only other ticking sounds i can think think of is the injectors or leaking exhaust manifolds. Not sure about the new engine you could buy a supercharged ecotec l67 but im sure it would be easier to stick with a the normal ecotec. Try another mechanic for a second opinion
