    Default Clutch, gearbox or diff?

    So yesterday i started getting a wiring/whining kind of noise coming from the gearbox area although i havent had a chance to get the car jacked up just to make sure that it isnt the diff. Its most noticeable when you leave it in gear (especially 2nd) as you slow down from about 2500rpm.

    It was making a rasping noise as well after each gear change but that doesnt happen all the time

    Im just wondering what other people out there have experienced as i havent had any dealings with gearboxes before. Also if it is the gearbox can I use a getrag out of another model commodore or does it need to be one of out of a VY?

    Have you checked gearbox oil? - Not a stupid question always good to check oils.


    I'm not too good in the gearbox department either, but if it's the diff it'll while all gears most of the time, and it'll get faster with rotation.


    I'm pretty sure you can only run the Getrag in the VY from the VY, but the VY can go from VS-VY.. Reason being the older ones were T5 setup..

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    Yeah the oil was changed about 40,000k's ago but i just havent had a chance to get under there and check

    Probably do it this arvo... but im pretty sure its the gearbox now as it sounded like a sick dog this morning when it was cold and then ran reasonably well considering once it warmed up and got the oil through it
