G'day, I got an l67 and I found this in the front of one of the cats? It's not metal but hasn't melted in theextreme temps? If it's plastic, it must b some extremely resilient type? It's not the end of a pushrod.
Anyone seen this before?
Here's sum pics...
Cheers.

Certainly looks like a broken pushrod to me.
Looks like a pushrod except that it has a taper and the hole doesn't go all the way through.
btw to the OP use the "img" code when up loading from photobucket and the pics will come straight up on these pages.

Its not a pushrod but it IS metal. Looks like aluminium. It feels light because its hollow. Run a file on it and see.
Could be just something thats been in the cat since day one. Maybe a broken part of a machine from the factory.
I cant think of anything in the motor that would look like that.
If it was something in the motor it would have no doubt absolutely destroyed everything on the way out.
One things for sure, if your car still runs its not from your engine.
Things that size don't pass through to the exhaust without damaging something....
Id say its a locating lug from a machine that's snapped of when work was done to the exhaust, factory of after market.
titanium alloy perhaps?
I've now polished it with metal polish where previously I'd filed, and instead of looking like ally or other
metal, it's white as snow like porcelain. It even feels cold like porcelain when left alone for a while.
Does it have a hole in the centre of the ball end?
Do you know any history of the car?
Mystery solved...02 sensor mashed...
Cheers all![]()
Never busted up one before to know what it looked like - so good work on that
Your car may run a little better now with a new o2 sensor in it...

Well there you go, every day is a school day
LOL as soon as i seen the first pic i thought "end of the 02 sensor" i was hoping noone had worked it out so i looked smart but you solved it all on your own![]()
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Lol, nah I wasn't smart enuff, another bloke picked it on another forum. But car feels doughy and a bit like it's pulling timing or ova fueling? Would my ecu..(haltech) need to get used to the now working
sensor?
Also I used a 2nd hand vn one i had around, coz the busted one was identical?
You'd be better off with a brand new sensor to me. Dont think they are too good once you pull them out of the car and leave them around for a bit
Good to see mystery solved and no engine disaster.

Yeh no disaster thankfully, but in Stil wondering how the ceramic thimble busted out of the metal dome? it's basically exploded out... Look at the flared metal. Wot can cause it to do this? I've never heard of
this type damage to a 02 sensor? And if it were an object hitting it, the metal wouldve been flared inward.
Didn't kno 02 sensors went bad if left out either...cheers Dr Haxzaw.
I'm not sure if they do but i have left some of my old ones lying around and after a week or 2 they look fairly average and i cant imagine it would help them at allDidn't kno 02 sensors went bad if left out either...cheers Dr Haxzaw.
