Default What next? Extractors, OTR, Tune

    Hi all,

I have SV8 series 2 Commodore and are not sure what to do next.

So far, I have a 2.5" catback twin pipe Xforce exhaust. But, I am not sure what to do next, initially I was going to go with a OTR and custom tune, but are now wondering if its worth while doing extractors as well - I have no intention of doing cams in the future.

What will I achieve from doing the extractors - are the performance gains worth the spend, or is it more of a supporting mod which will build a platform for cams in the future. Worst case scenario, I could add extractors later on and get a retune.

Sorry, dont know a lot about extractors and what gains are expected - naturally, with extractors I can understand you can de-cat the exhaust pipes which cannot be achieved with a cat-back exhaust.

    Cheers,

    Blair

To me your best bet would be extractors, highflow cats and then do OTR and tune... saves you money on the retune and will help get the best out of the stock engine

IMO - get the headers & cats done first, this will give you a noticeable change in note straight off the bat as well as a bit of a power gain.
Then as money permits, OTR & tune - you will notice after this point it's like driving a different car with significant gains in power and takeoff, if you are planning on going lumpier cam then probably wait on that and then go the OTR with the cam upgrade as the tune will be to suit the cam (obviously).
I just got an alloy OTR with tune (still got to put pikkies up sorry) - which got me up to 315.5hp at the rears, I had already done pacemaker headers / hi flow cats / 2&1/2 redback twin system etc..but the donk is still pretty much bog stock at this stage.
    Just my two cents.

I also own an Sv8, Definately do the extractors and high flow cats first before a tune. I have hurricane 1 7/8 extractors and can say they are awesome, also pacemaker make great extractors. Then go OTR & tune, best value performance mod for them..

Extractors and cats first, if you do the OTR and tune first you'll most likely want to fit them later on as that is usually what happens once people get used to the new way they drive after a few mods.

I am going to agree with everyone here. Extractors and cats. It really depends if you plan to do the rest of the mods also.
A Tune will make a big difference but if you plan to do extractor and cats later then it means your gonna want to do a retune aswell.

So if you plan to eventually get everything done do Extractor/cats and then OTR, Tune etc
    And then turbo???

Im just about to do this azwell, vcm otr, tune and having pacemaker 4 into 1's put on and going to pull the cats off completly, dont need them here in nz but was told that the car will be extremly loud with no cats, what sort of sound effect do cats have on the exhaust? Was told to put hotdog style mufflers where the cats were to lowere the db. I havent decided on the cat back system yet because of this reason but wanting to put a xforce 3 inch on.

I can do you a good deal on Hurricane 1 7/8" primary tuned length 4-1 extractors and 200 cell high flow metal cats with the pipework attached, $1350 shipped, all bolt on, no cutting or welding necessary.
