Fitted one intank

Fitted into factory sender unit. Car runs, but fuel gauge goes up halfway, then empty and then message comes on screen saying 'Fuel Gauge Error, Contact Retailer'

Has anyone else come across this problem ?? Does it require Tech2 ??
