Have a VY Berlina wagon v6.
We were cruising around town tonight and noticed a bloody horrible loud clunking noise. Sounded like metal on metal.
Coming from the rear left, was only audible with foot off decelerating up to an intersection or just cruising in to stop.
Clunking goes in time with the wheels so as we slow down the clunking gets slower etc.
Had a look underneath for anything obvious but came away scratching my head.
Just wondered if anyone else had the problem before i fire it into the mechanic.
center bearing on the tail shaft
rubber couplings on the tailshaft
one of the drive shaft cv joints
check oil in the diff
If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!
hey i think i have the same sort of sound, i cant work it out it is heard when i take off from stand still, and some times when i let the clutch out or even let the foot of accelarater, and some times makes a clunk at low speed when i turn a corner, but cant hear any noises at high speed. i might look into those suggestions that were mentioned.
let my know if u have any luck finding the problem
Sounds like a flywheel. Same problem in mine... If its dual mass then it's ready for the bin. Where as a solid mass may possibly be machined..
Is it a constant clunk clunk clunk or do u only get it once every time the car let's off the accelerator at low speeds?
my ute used to do the same thing. you would be driving along and back of the throttle and it would clunk. it felt like the tailshaft to me. so i ended up replacing the centre bearing and the tailshaft and it fixed the problem
Hi
yer I have a vz doing the same thing
I am going with the centre bearingbecause when it clungs as you say sounds like its hitting the floor
