Hi i have a 2003 6 cylinder VY commodore auto - six months ago i was driving it and the brake warning light and the beeper activated then the brakes went. I got to my destination slowly and then 3 hours later went back out and the brakes were fine and no warning light.
I checked the fluid and pads and all was fine and the master cylinder does not seem to be bypassing fluid.
All has been fine until last night and the same thing happened again.
Has anyone got any ideas to help me before i go to a mechanic.
thanks
try a brake flush? could be old fuild and may have boiled it...
Old fluid wont result in an intermittent problem.
Id be checking the vacuum line to the brake booster and see if theres any holes, cracks or splits.
Silver Certified.
When you say the brakes went, how exactly? No pedal, hard pedal, just didn't stop?
No wiring to booster its purely mechanical.

Could be something to do with abs module
How were you driving? Spiritedly, or normal round town?

I was driving on the M1 highway then come of the m1 and stopped at roundabout and they were spongy to the ground. We changed the fluid and the brake pads were worn so we changed them. Nothing has happened since but it has only happened 2 times in the past 6 months so strange will keep you updated. thanks for everyone getting back to me with good advice
I had this issue on my VX Executive that I just sold. After 3 visits to the mechanic, it was a crimped brake cable, back
left hand side. The replaced it and it works perfectly.
Hope this helps, I lost a lot of hair trying to sort it out-now I'm bald!
