Hey guys, i grabbed some near new rear shocks off a vt, was wondering if they would fit a vy series 2 no worries, also what tools would be involved ? Cheers !
Yep, they will fit. A 19mm spanner or socket to undo the bottom mounting bolt, and I think from memory the top nut is 17mm? It's easier with two people to undo the top nut, one holding the body of the shock and the other undoing the nut. Or if you have long arms, you can hold the shock with one hand while undoing the nut with the other.
Thanks heaps man, should be a pretty simple job then.
isnt there a little flat piece on top of the shock you can get a shifter on to hold it? i didnt have to hold it when i took mine out but that was a few months ago so dont remember... its pretty easy to have a look just open up your boot and take of the little black boots
The Top of the Shock should be a flat point, allowing you to stop the shock from spinning, like hold that with a shifter and use a spanner for the nut. But in my case that top part broke on one of them and was unable to even stop the shock from spinning, so out with the angle grinder it was to cut to the top off lol
Well its simple, Try, if the top does break off, the shock is still fine, its just going to require a angel grinder then lol so its not like oh shit moment now my car is UN-drivable you know.
if you dont have an angle grinder you can always just use a hacksaw... not the quickest way though
Yeh i get yas, i just got bare minimum tools where i am atm, but got 2 cars so if it does go wrong ill run up to bunnings and get a hacksaw blade, cheers guys
No luck, didnt have any WD40 to loosen the bolts![]()
what are you using Ring spanner?
Extra leveridge is the key.
Using the Ring Part on the bolt and with another larger ring spanner slide the second spanners ring over the U shaped side of the first one...once you work it out its easy.
Or hammertime
socket and breaker bar is the best way to do it if you dont have air tools, shouldnt be too tight to need WD-40
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Yeh thought about breaker bar and those other ways to get leverage, but have broken a few tools at work doing that - dont wanna break my own tools tho
what kind of tools have you been using? i do it all the time at work and never broken one not even when you give them a good old hammering
Dunno what brand, but a couple if shifters, couple of ratchets, all made of copper barilium though, so weaker than normal, oh and 1 normal sidchrome ratchet, lots of stuff breaks at work with ease lol
lol yeah i'v heard those copper tools are weak as piss... try getting a length of 1in pipe and then weld a nut onto it that fits the other end of the ring spanner, thats the best way to do it cause it never slips out
