    Default Centre console paint/stereo removal

Hey guys, i just started spraying my spare centre console for the vy a different color. Then i realised the stock stereo has to come out to put it in. Just wondering if i take it out and redo the console and then throw the stereo in will it ask for the security code (i dont have a clue what the code is + dont have the stereo card in my owners book).. If it asks for the code - is there any way around it ?? Any ideas greatly appreciated !!

its going to ask for the code as you will have to undo the plug, so looses all power, why not put a aftermarket headunit in? i personaly dont see the point of pulling out the stock one then to put it back in..

Mine didn't ask for the code when I had it out to paint my console. But yours might?!
You can give Holden your VIN with proof of ownership and hope they give you the code for free.

VY from memory don't ask for the code as long as the cd player is placed back into the car it came out of.
So in your case will be fine, if you put it into a friends car it will then ask for the code.

Changing the stereo will happen later, got plenty more important things to do 1st, but yeh aftermarket is way better IMO, usb, mp3 etc

Ha yeh that's true about Holden. Some may do it if they know you and you've bought parts through them. It's just a matter of them spending a couple of minutes on their computer.
I've had my stereo out, like I said and disconnected/changed batteries and the only thing I lose on the stereo is the time. Keeps all the preset channels, settings, etc.

    it wont ask.

I think it stores it in the BCM.

I had my head unit out in 2004 and chucked it back in just 4 weeks ago (so end of 2011), the car remembered despite the head unit sitting in my bedroom for 6, almost 7 years.

As mentioned, only thing it'll forget is the time - same as when you disconnect the battery.
