Hey guys
Im looking to buy a vy s pack as my first car.
I was just wondering if you guys can tell me what to look out for?
and if there good cars? what goes wrong with them and any other important things i should know about them
i also want to know if i should just put a little extra $$ and buy vz s pack?
any information would be helpful
thanks!
VY 6's are pretty much all the same when you look under the different bumper covers, side skirts etc. As far as issues to look for on a V6 V6 I'd look at the following;
power steering shudder when parking
inlet manifold gaskets, oil in radiator or coolant in the oil
condition of radiator, any small cracks in the tanks etc
brake shudder
front suspension bushes esp. castor rod bushes and sway bar links
central locking issues such as sticking when car is in the hot sun or out in the rain
leaks into the cabin from the back doors.
It's mainly small issues with these cars and a lot of these were rectified during the production run so the later the build date the better. Just make sure it's been serviced properly and check the fluids are not too old especially the transmission and power steering.
I have a VY s pack.. Love it, great car.
"WORTUS" I've noticed i get power steering shudder when parking like u said. whats causing problem and how do i fix it?
cheers mate ill give it a go
I've read a few articles, some say it's insufficient pressure from the pump at low engine RPM but I've also noticed it's worse as the fluid ages and also smetimes when it's hot.
My car was pretty bad when I got it and I spoke to friend who's a mechanic and he said don't bother with the modified hose from Holden as it may or may not fix the problem. I suspect it just masks the problem as the extra hose takes the vibration out?
I've had good success changing the power steering fluid and using some Nulon additive. I've just noticed mine's started to do it again on and off so I will replace the fluid again soon and use some more Nulon additive. I spoke to a guy from Nulon and he suggested trying their fully synthetic fluid as it's viscosity does not vary as much as the mineral grade fluid in relation to it's temperature.
vz s pac is worth the extra money, i love my vy s pac, however the supercharger doesn't generate the power you want, and it chews up heaps of fuel, ive heard the vz has a heap more power as it uses the alloytech engine not the ecotech engine, and it is much more efficient on fuel. the VZ s is a much better car.
I reckon the VY is the bargain buy of the used commodore market at the moment. Not as high tech as the VZ but probably more reliable and cheaper on parts seeing as it was the last model to use the old ecotec V6. I've heard a few VZ's having timing chain issues and the like whereas the VYs dont seem to have any major issues.
I Have a vy s II
rear mains leaking, steering shudder.... However when i fixed it up its perfect. love the drive.
Rough idle and slightly clunky transmission are my complaints about my car.
I got the same model but a ute. it is the sxciest thing on the road love it
only thing i hate is its harder 2 get ur old subs 2 fithad 2 buy slimline ones
With Inlet Manifold gaskets leaking oil in radiator is that common for vy v6 engines as alot of people have told me so.My mate has that problem for a few years and was told that is the cause and then someone else told him the sluge is from the pellets holden put in the radiator.Car doesnt overheat and drives fine and has left it as is withou a issue.
