Default Steering wheel controls - Wiring

    Hi again

My precious VY Berlina has been playing games with me these past few weeks.
Now my steering wheels volume controls have decided to have an episode of amnesia.

    Mute is Mute
    Volume + is Mute
    Volume - is Volume +

Is this simply a wiring issue within the control? or maybe a computer issue?

I'm off to Vietnam and Thailand for a few weeks and will take it to my Auto Electrician when I get back.

    See you soon!

    Hi All
The VY GTO steering controls have done the same thing but only rarely.
Seems to fix itself so I have assumed it is dirty switch contacts. Hasn't done it for a while so haven't taken it apart to check.
Would be interested to know if anyone knows of a reason and better still a fix.

    Thanks

I had an Auto Elec tell me that I would need a new controler.

    I can't imagine they're expensive.

My 04 Calais Does the Same thing.... I find it usually happens when the car has been parked in the sun and it is hot inside. Once the aircon kicks in a cools the car (and thus controls) down a bit they go back to normal.
I also have issues with the mode and track buttons sometimes but they always come good.
One day I got in the car and tried to use them and they performed functions that werent relevant to any of the buttons.

I believe, and correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure the steering wheel controls are resistance based, perhaps extreme temperatures cause the resistance to change a bit??
