Default Wanting to Wire 2 12V lights inside.

Hey I want to wire 2 12V lights to a switch and then power them inside my car, does anyone know where i could draw power from at the drivers or passengers side?

    I have a 2003 VY S pack.

    Cheers.

    Hey mate,

Best place would be tapping to your ciggy lighter. In saying that I have 2 neons that just tap into the power supply from my battery. A lot of people do it to their roof light power cable so when you open/unlock doors it comes on.. Really up too you there are heaps of places

IM guessing if u tap into any cable it doesnt blow the fuse?

    Im more worried about that?

From doing further reading i assume u can just power it off anything pretty much all u need to do is tap into a cable and wire them correctly and then bobs ur uncle ur done?

    Pretty much.

Your most reliable source is your ciggy lighter. I just tap into the power source for my Amp.
But just test how much power is in the line but it should be fine

Yes you can. I just put seperate lights in, two red neons hooked to headlight switch wire, with an on/off switch, and two white leds that come on with the doors.
Again, if you can find it in a search would be the go, because I'm not too sure how it's done.

I buy the rocker type switches from any auto store, such as Supercheap. I use the ones with the little red/green, etc LED, which lights up when the switch is on. Around $7 each.
I made a board up where I have four switches mounted. I got rid of the little rubber coin compartment, directly behind the power window switches, and have the switchboard there.

Just a question for you there,

Does ur own power on when u switch it on or did u also make it turn on when the door opens?

The only ones that come on with the doors are the seperate white LED's.
I also have red ones under there (footwells) that are spliced into the interior instrument lighting and they are switched seperately so I can have them off or on.

    Gotcha.

Has anyone tried to do something a long these lines?

With the front footwell turning on with door an a separate switch..

    So..

If door = open and switch = on or off
    Footwell on

If door = closed and switch = on
    Footwell on

If door = closed and switch = off
    Footwell off

hi mate i just wired some footwell led's into my vy over the weekend and i have them wire off the factory interior lights, so basically whenever the door is open the leds come on, they can be turned on by the switch for your map lights in the sunglasses holder thing, they also come on when you unlock the door at night. No need for extra switches at all. The wiring colours which are behind the drivers kick panel are Orange with black trace is positive and Yellow with a blue trace is the earth wire.

If you want the option of having them on while driving, without the other interior/map lights, then you do need a seperate switch.

I have switches but how would I go about wiring them in?

So it acts on the way I want it?

I'm not sure how to wire the switches so that you can have them on with the doors AND come on seperately while driving. That's why I added the white leds to the footwells AFTER I already had the red neons that work as I've stated above.
I can't post shortcuts to other threads, because I only have a stupid T-HUB, but try searching using the Google search bar at the top of the page. There are threads on this subject. That's the best that I can do for you......

Wire the interior light circuit and the switched light circuit in parallel, with diodes in the interior light circuit to prevent the switch turning on all your interior lights. :-)

Alright, i've drawn you up the circuit you need. This will enable you to switch the aftermarket lights on and off with the doors closed, and they'll be on when ever you open the door/turn on the stock interior light. If it's not what you were after/want out to function differently let me know.

I am making the assumption that the interior light is negatively switched like my VP. If you want a master override to turn off the aftermarket lights, even when open the doors, you will need a second switch on the high (12v) side of the after market lights.

    Any questions, let me know!

Easy way to tell is to measure the voltage at the light to ground with the doors closed if its 12v its a, negative switch, if its zero its positive. :-)

Or earth the negative wire when the door is closed. Light turns on, switch is negative
