    Default $800 for a sump?

Effed up my sump. the mechanic said it will cost $800 ($1350 all up to put a new one in) for the new sump.
    is this a reasonable price?

If its an ecotec you can buy second hand motors for a few hundred so i think getting a second hand sump should be pretty cheap. Dont know how long it would take but a few hours maybe and obviously an oil change too. Sounds a bit much to me

$800 is probably for a new sump. Get a second hand one put in for less than half that.

Wow $800 for a ecotec sump is cheap, $1000 retail brand new according to my Holden price list. But yeah better off buying a second hand one.

The VY V6 sump is quite rair compared to VS/VT/VX. The VY sump has a wider head at the front of the pan which allows greater capacity. The bellhousing is also incorporated into the rear of the sup for the trans which eliminates the beaming braces of earlier models.

$800 is a bit rich and I'd expect the mechanic is just marking up 50% or so then adding labour. You can't do it yourself, you pay

The mechanic will probably use a second hand one as well.... better off supplying it yourself to be fitted.
