Default Overheating Holden Commodore - HELP!!!

Hi All, Hoping someone can help me out. My 2002 VY Commodore seems to be overheating. I recently had replaced the manifold gasket & thermostat. Now every time I drive my car it overheats. When it overheats the bottom hose compresses tightly. Help what could this be?

When you replaced the thermostat. Did you remove any airlocks in the system?

The thermostat was replaced by my mechanic, when you say remove air locks in the system they did bleed the system and checked the fan. Do you think the radiator could be partially or completely blocked? The radiator was only replaced in the last year as it had a hairline crack!

Also has it overheated before? Also have to look at how quickly it overheats. You could be looking at needing the heads done if its not the radiator

It's pretty hard to diagnose it without information of when it happens and how. I was chasing an overheating problem on my Hilux and the cause was a part that i had already replaced...not working as it should.

It was originally heating only when I was on the highways traveling @ 80+, but in the last couple of days when I was just driving in local streets doing 60km. The gauge starts to rise steadily to half way, then suddley out of no were it rises to hot. I popped the bonet straight away checked everything, water was flowing. But that was when I discovered the hose at the bottom toughly compressed. No, leaks from the water pump, but considering removing it to check there is no corrosion. Is there anything else you could suggest before I go down replacement of gasket. Possibly compression tests?etc

Yes you can start with a pressure test of the cooling system first. Seeming the waters flowing then check to see that the fans are engaging but for it to be getting hot on freeway driving means you have a problem my gauge doesn't even reach the halfway mark. Id be getting the engine compression tested I was driving a truck that used to get majorly hot for ages and the problem was the pressure was getting into the radiator from the engine

Thanks, will have this done. I never had my gauge sitting on the half way mark or overheating. This is all come about after I received my car back from the mechanics after they did the manifold gasket & thermostat. What did they have to replace on te truck? I am trying to do everythig possible, to avoid going down the road of the gaskets, so any advice is greatly appreciated Will Let you know how I go tomorrow....Cheers mate!!

Hi All, Thought I would reply with an update on what the problem was, did a flush on the radiator and replaced the sensor and no more overheating. Hope this for people having the same issue.

hello people of the jc forums, purchased vy storm ute 6mnths ago. I have very basic knowledge of cars.
engine temp hot light came on last week, checked coolant and oil everything was fine topped up to oil ( was on the add line)
three or so days later it came on again checked it when i got home 2-3 mins later no coolant. It is obviously leaking somewhere
had the car running with the bonett up and radiator cap off bubbles appear but for the life of me cannot see any visual leaks
Just filled it up and when for a 5 min drive tempreture fluctuated a little just under half to 3/4 then back down then as a was pulling into my driveway
ding ding ding overheating checked the hoses no pressure...
my mates thinks it would be the head gasket and or head
any advice would be much apprieciated

    Josh
