Hi guys my vy has a really bad stiff accelerator, wat I mean is it gets hard to push the accelerator past a certain point at first push. It does this every time the pedal is pushed, I've tried lubricating it but still no difference it's starting to get really annoying as my car is manual it happens every time I change gear. Once I have started to take off its fine but when I stop or change gear and press it again it happens, any help would be appreciated
I think your throttle body will be dirty. Take off intake tube and give the butterfly and surrounding area a good clean.
Let us know how you go. Good luck.
Hey, I also sent this from my Galaxy S2 using Tapatalk 2!
might want to also take the lid off your plenum as the EGR inlet it just on the other side of the throttlebody and that is where most of the caron build up will be
And also when the car is off it feels normal
I gave the throttle body a good clean but still no difference it seems as if the butterfly is slightly stuck but it's weird when the car is off it moves freely without any problems,
just thought that it might be the cruise control module is screwed... disconnect the cruise control cable from the throttlebody and see if that fixes it
the only thing i can think of then is possibly the tps is gone... or it could be a messed up traction control cause i think it does something similar doesnt it?
TPS is Throttle Position Sensor. It's an electronic sensor on the top of the throtle body.
Mine was 'stiff' too, lol, and a good clean of the throttle body, paying particular attentin to the butterfly fixed it.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
i had the same problem and giving the throttle body and butterfly a really good clean with carby cleaner and a tooth brush fixed it. i think i also removed it off the motor to clean it better but thats up to you...
To the OP. Merely flushing the throttle body with carby cleaner only cleans the visible carbon build-up and gunk. Usually, the butterfly sticks because of carbon build-up on its edge and the only way of removing that properly is to remove the throttle body and spend time scraping the carbon off with a soft metal or hard plastic utensil. Don't use anything that will scratch or damage the edge of the butterfly. The edge is flanged so that it closes off the throttle throat fully and any small indentations or scratches could lead to an erratic idle.
i cant remember off the top of my head but there could be a gasket so just be carefully removing it or grab another one
Check the throttle cable dude, remove it from the throttle body and push/pull the cable, it should slide in and out freely, if not get a new cable.
When I cleaned mine, I removed the throtte body, there's about four nuts I think. And yes there's a gasket, but mine stayed in one piece. As Caliber said, the build up of carbon around the EDGE of the butterfly causes the sticky throttle problem.
I used 'Throttle body and carby cleaner' in a spray can. Use a toothbrush, also like said above, carefuul wth any hard tools you use to scrape with.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
I took the throttle body off and gave it a about an hour of soaking scrubbing it with a tooth brush come up really clean put it back on, it feel perfect for the day but started to slowly happen again now 2 days later it's stiff as again, my cable seems fine so wat else could it be
any pictures or walk throughs on cleaning throttle body out there??
when you took the throttle body off did it feel like it was scraping or rubbing while moving it?? just wondering if the bushes are grabbing or something like that
Nah when the tb was off it seemed to move freely it's got me stuffed I might have to buy a second hand tb to see if it makes a different
I had the exact same issue.. Every day i would get in my car and almost had to 'prep' my Tb otherwise id get stuck and have to push and the car would jump forward. I tried all your methods and ended up getting a MACE TB. Worked well![]()
