Please forgive if these sounds stupid :hit: , but thats why im asking

I just picked up a 5.7L VY II Calais with the dual exhast and i was wondering how much a set of pacemaker extractors would set me back and if they are really worth it with exhast setup already in it, or to run a new exhast setup

Second query is weither to get a K&N pod kit or just the normal K&N filter, i know theres little performance gained but i want to know which is better for the car.

I rather like the quietness of the engine but a more monaro sounding car would sound better and meaner,

P.S. this car makes the vn (which is a decent car) feel slow and handle like a brick

Hi,

I have the same type of car, but mine's black with black leather. Just did a 1600km round trip in it, and did not get pin & needles anywhere along the journey. Very comfy car.

Anyhow, wrt your exhaust question, there isn't much at all to be gained by swapping headers, apart from sound. The stockies flow pretty well unless you're chasing 10ths down the quarter. Also, you're a bit limited as to what you can do with headers in these cars, because of the placement of the catalytic converters. There are special "shorty" headers which have been designed to compensate for this. I think they're made by HM.

When you say "dual exhaust" is it aftermarket? Or is it from an SS or HSV? As standard fitment these cars come with a twin 2" system which joins to a single 2.25" pipe between the mufflers and the rear resonator, and a single 2.25" outlet with a 5" chrome tip.

Now, regarding the K&N: I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. They may flow better, but this makes no difference to performance. There have been several reports of less than 1 rwkw gains as tested on a dyno. They don't filter as well as the stock paper filter, and can damage your MAF meter with microscopic oil deposits. Their only advantage is that they can be re-used, and even then they take years to pay for themselves. If you want more induction noise, put another hole in your airbox, or enlarge the standard one.

Some discussion on this very topic:

Note: AC Delco makes the stock GM paper filter.

In summary, don't waste your money on a K&N. Save your money and put it towards a good tune.

Cheers,

:)

cheers mate, i love the black leather, sets the car off.

the exhast isnt aftermarket one as far a i know, my mate that i work with took a look and told me that it has the dual exhast in it, sorry im not very mechanical literate.

thanks for them sites, some interesting stuff on them, and really why would i need more power im lucky enough to be able to drive the car as im just off my red p's. (thanks god for getting ps before them restrictions)

i think i might change the rocker covers to ones like on the VZ SS, cause i them better than the turtle looking thing
