    Post Mobile Phone Connector Details

The following information may be useful to anyone wanting to install their car kit in a VY.

The 6 way connector socket can be located under the passenger side of the centre console. The plug to fit this socket can be sourced from your local Holden Dealer for under $5 all up. Part numbers as follows:

    92143075 - Connector-Phone
(This is the plastic plug assembly; you will need 1 of these)

    92141210 - Terminal-Phone
(These are the actual metal solder/crimp pins; you will need 6 of these for a full installation... funny that Holden seem to pack them in lots of 5? )

The 6 wires are as follows...

Orange - 12V Supply (Battery via fuse... always on)
Black/Green - 0V (Chassis, earth, ground... you know the drill)
    Yellow - 12V Accessory Supply
Yellow w/stripe - Radio Mute signal. Active Low.
    Blue w/stripe - Audio-
    Blue - Audio +

    Hope someone finds this useful,
    Rippa

    VERY USEFUL

My phone is connected to the always live wire and the mute is not connected. Now I can fix it to work properly.
    Thank You

    Excellent info Rippa -

Is there anything to watch out for when buying a car kit or will any kind of kit go along with the parts from Holden...

    cheers

Um not sure if there are any gotchas... it worked fine with my genuine Siemens kit. I worked out the details with a little guesswork, multimeter etc. Probably should have put the "standard disclaimer" on my first post

I guess some kits may not use both the permanent and accessory power, so you could choose which you wanted.

Another potential problem could be an active-high mute line, meaning the wire is energised rather than grounded when muting is required. I'd say this would be very uncommon, but you may come across one.

    Thumbs up

I finally connected the mute up to my Nokia hands free and it works. I left it connected to the allways live and connected my caravan battery charge system to the Accessory wire, now it works as I wanted it. See my post for wiring diagram.

"I hope you can help me.

I have connected a 20 amp wire to my 7 pin caravan socket ( to charge the van battery while towing) and have run the wire through a 20 amp resetting circuit breaker and a 30 amp relay. I wish to trigger the relay from an accessory which is disconnected when the starter in operated, so as to stop any risk of high amperage draw from the caravan battery at that time.

My problem is I can't get a wiring diagram for my VY Commodore Exe. Holden can't help me with a Workshop Manual, which they say the CD will cost about $350 when available."

    Thank you again
    Don H

    1. Best place is top left corner of Windscreen (about where the rego label is stuck if you are a Victorian)

    2. Next best place is middle of the Windscreen. Use the the rear view mirror mounting point as a centring reference point and mount above mirror) Don't worry, signal will transmit through the black stuff.

    3. side window window of the boot is next place. Centre top.

I've had glass mount aerials mounted to all these points in VT & VX wagons & sedans. Not a huge signal strength difference, but the above order is well worth consideration, especially if you are in a marginal reception area.

In our VT and VX Dad had a handsfree kit, and the antenna was mounted at the top centre of the back window. Worked well enough.

The original question related to a Berlina S/wagon.

Any window without a demister is a better option.

But having said that, the rear window in a sedan will work, but the reception is best at the top left corner of the winscreen, followed by centre of windscreen.

For anyone else with VR-VX the wiring is identical with the exception of the 2 blue audio input wires.
I havnt come across a kit yet that has positive mute trigger and I fit 5 a week on average.

Also the VX (I think) calais and WH Stato have the audio input.

Take note, if you're installing antenna on side cargo window and you have tint with metallic substance in it, the inductive coupling of the glass mount antenna will be quite ineffective.

Also, if you whack a 8ft long board of goat boat on the roof of your wagon, centre front is not good! Suggest front top left!

Must get around to moving my antenna one day!!!!

I do fleet installs so I can see anywhere 10-15 kits a day mainly Commodores, Falcons, Camrys, Subarus and Magna.

I still haven't seen a Positive Radio Mute. Some Non-Genuine Kits give you the option of both.

Also Cradle mounting is another thing. Mount Kits can be brought from Holden, they go beside the shifter and are made to look factory (mainly because you can order them installed from the factory) No screws are put into the car and it's easily removed. Worth around $50 Retail. Worth investing in.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
