Looking under the sump area im guessing its a 19mm socket thats required to suit the V6. Sump bolt looks to be on the drivers rear side vertical ?
Planning on using Penrite HPR10 SAE 10W-50 and a Ryco filter which I hope is a good selection ?

No still heaps of warranty but 15000km oil changes is bullshit..
before the car goes back for its 60000km service due @ dealer
will ensure theres a GM Oil filter fitted and will supply oil as magnatec
is not what I call a good oil.
I live bye the change oil + filter every 5000km my old nissan skyline
did 4000000km and the engine same as fitted to VL was still going strong

you may have warranty issues if something goes wrong with the engine if you supply your own oil, but will the dealer even put it in? them bastards at the dealer seem to always try and scam you out of any warranty work where they can by saying stuff i have found. like if your engine blew up not long after the service with your oil, they would say no warranty as the oil was not from us and could have been contaminated etc..

Done properly it won't void your warranty.

Drop oil, remove filter, use genuine Holden one (which appears not to be too bad a filter) replace sump bolt, top up with Magentec.

Should have a drama, in fact I doubt Holden guys would know if it's been changed.

Out of interest only a few of our fleet cars get their oil changed when they go in for an oil change at Holden.

OK Snap thanks

Will try to get a few filters from holden dealer spare parts section.

While I think about it also some sump bolt washers?

I have not heard good things about Magnatec Oil hence I was going
to stick with Penrite HPR10 or as I used in my old R31 Skyline Shell
Helix Plus 15w 50.

Ive got a Max Ellery book etc so I dont think I can go wrong, also I
always use a measuring container and get within a few 100mL of the
amount quoted in the book.

Just for info I asked at a large northern Adelaide Holden dealer
spare parts section on the subject of what oil they use for services.
Well it turns out that this dealer uses Holden brand mineral 10w40 and
I asked what price to buy $54.85 I was so set back didnt even look
at the black bottle to see if that was for 4 or 5L.
Left with 3 GM oil filters each were $8.06 which is what I would expect to pay.

Go the Magnetec. Good price for the filters.

Ahhh yes sump plug washers, always forget those.

I just bought some from Repco 5 litres plus a bonus litre ( the VY 3.8's use 5.6 odd litres) for $32 if memory serves me correct.

Just make sure you take the cap off the top first so it drains better.
