    Default "SRS Airbag Fault" message

Hey guys. Hope somebody can help here.

I installed speakers / amp in my VY SS over the weekend, and ever since, whenever I turn the key on, I get warning beeps and a message: "SRS airbag fault".

The only electrical stuff I touched was:
-Disconnected / removed the front passenger seat (I spose those two wires that go to the seat are for the side airbags?)
    -Disconnected the battery
-Disconnected the power mirror switch to take the drivers door trim off and
    -Disconnected the factory speakers.

Would this just be a matter of resetting the computer or something? If so, can I do it myself or do i need to take it to a dealer?

I did the same thing and had to get the computer reset with the Tech2 at my local Holden dealer. There are side air bags as well as sensors in the seat so the airbag only deploys if there is someone in the seat. It could have been either.

Carfeul to ask how much. They initially wanted to charge me $30 (took about 1 minute all up). The technician came out to the car park with the Tech2, he reset it in front of me and said "Just go mate, I wouldn't pay for something like that", so I went!

There's ya problem right there. Wish we could do this ourself, can anyone do a bulk buy on Holden's Tech 2's, I for one will have one!
Seriously, I'm trying to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my arse!!

Holden's scanning tool, it does wonders, communicates with your car, like a doctor who performs check-ups and does surgery, very much like that finds problems and corrects them and alters all sorts of functions.

I went to Suttons Holden at Chullora. Luckily I was able to speak directly to a Technician, therefore bypassing the administration and the charge. It is worth shopping around.

I don't think the Tech2 is smart enough to reprogram the engine management system. It is more a system diagnostic tool and system resetting facility.

Tech 2 can reprogram the PCM but only with a Standard Calibration, you need other tools to modify it.

Ok guys, one more question regarding taking my seat out and getting the "SRS airbag fault" message:

How do I take my seat out and avoid this message coming up in the future?

Do I just NOT turn on the ignition whilst the seat is out? Or can I turn on the ignition if I pull out the airbag fuse first??

I'd like to be able to remove my seat if I need to, to fiddle with my amp, and obviously turn on the ignition to listen to it whilst the seat is out. If there's no other way around it, I may have to move my amp to the boot or something....

Ideally, try to work with the yellow plug still connected. If you have to take the seat all the way out, I am guessing remove the battery and do not turn the ignition on whilst the seats are disconnected, although this is only a guess.

Dr Bob may be able to confirm, maybe PM him.

BTW, I also started with the amp (800watts) under the seat although the cooling fan was too noisy for me (especially with the engine off and in between songs), so I moved it to the boot. Is yours noisy?

Just out of interest guys, I put my car in for a service on Friday and they re-set the computer no worries - all sorted.

Hey Mark, I went to Suttons Chullora too (it's near my work) and they had the hide to try and charge me $77 for the re-set!!

I had a bit of a whinge and the waived the charge for me - nice try guys!

Oh yeah, and as far as taking the seat out in future, Phreddy had a simple solution: I can take the seat out and turn on the head unit without turning on the ignition using the "ON" button. Stereo will run for about an hour...

Anyhow, thanx to all for your help...

Hmmm, I can't really do that if I wanna fiddle with my amp/stereo while the seat is out.

I'm just gonna pull out the airbag fuse in future as a precaution. That should work yeah?

I don't want to be responsible for going through that again so I won't comment......There should be enough length in the wiring so that you can move the seat out of the way without unplugging.

Good to hear you didn't have to pay. Maybe if dealers charged a more realistic price we would be knocking their doors down.

Did you get the Phreddy special? With phreddy's conversion and the big amp I am smilin' . I want the latest version of the button though and I haven't put in a decent set of front speakers yet. I'll have to get in his ear soon.

    Cheers.

Yep, Phreddy special. (RCA outs x4, blue dash, MP3 in)

I'm real happy too, except I've only had time to put in my front speakers! They sound tops though. I'll probably have to wait till the long wkend to put in my rears and sub.

BTW, I got mobbed by three separate techs at Suttons Chullora asking me about the blue dash - they loved it. One young bloke thought I just put blue cellafane over the lights!!

Phreddy charged me about $450 for all three mods I mentioned above. Took him the best part of a day. PM him if you're interested...

Found out first hand on this same issue, the loom that you disconnect to take out either chair is to activate the pretensioners.. u can unplug/plug in this loom - any airbag/SRS (all yellow sheethed) looms as many times as ya want pending u DO NOT turn on the ignition... by turning ON the ignition sets off the fault code that is perminent till the ecu is reset by the Tech2
