I have a VY series II V6 with 41k on the clock. Obviously I have my 45k service due soon and my dipstick is showing around quarter.
How much oil use is normal?
I'm not too experienced with VY's but with only 45,000k's on the clock you should be using next to no oil at all. Do youself a favour and before the service, get under the car and find where the engine joins with the gearbox. Look for any oil leaks around there. If there is you will need your rear main seal replaced. The part is cheap but is very costly in labour. However I'm assuming that the VY is still under warranty? If it is, kick, scream and complain until the dealer takes action. Don't take no for an answer and don't let them tell you to "just keep an eye on it". The guy I bought my VS from said he had holden replace two real main seals. Both under warranty. I know it can be common with VS'
Having said all that you should get under the engine and have a look around for leaks. Feel under the oil filter and around the sump bolt. Could just be that one of those wasn't put on tight enough. Also have a look for regular oil stains in the driveway and garage. That could give you an idea of where it's coming from. Hope this helps.
Thats a big call. The rocker cover or valley gaskets could be leaking and will run down the back of the heads down the back of the engine and around the rear of the motor. Same goes for the sump gasket.Originally Posted by Scooter79
I take your point. Bottom line is there has to be a leak somewhere. The engine is too new to be burning oil.Originally Posted by hkmonaro68
Maybe at the last service, there wasnt the correct amount of oil added, leaving it a little short,
No oil leaks, I park my car in my carport same spot everyday. No patches..
how many kms since last oil change?
Well every car burns oil, it just depends on how much it burns as to whether it is bad.
most new cars don't burn enough to even notice between services.
but i would definitely ask holden about it when you take it in for its service.
Last service 30k..Originally Posted by genIIIbandit

Whether the car is new or old the Car companies always state in the manuals to check your oil regularly between servicing because they expect a car to burn oil and to top up as required. It’s not uncommon for a engine to burn half of its oil between servicing.
I wouldn't b too worried bout it using that amount of oil.
If u were getting blue smoke, or smoke on start up, then i be concerned.
All engines use some amount of oil.
If u've got no leaks and no smoke then I wouldn't worry.
If u're that concerned bout it though, just have a chat with one of the service mechs wen u take it in next.
